High Load Bearing Foam Gasket

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd supply and convert a range of polyurethane materials, including our high load bearing foam gaskets.  Polyurethane foams are one of the more commonly used materials found in everyday applications including furniture and car interiors.

High load bearing PU raw material foams are manufactured in block form of in 2.3m x 2m or 2.3m x 1m in size, which can then be split into sheets in thicknesses up to around 100mm - but can be laminated to achieve thicknesses greater than this.  These sheets can also be joined to form rolls for further conversion into a choice of components including gaskets.  High load bearing foam gaskets are manufactured using drawings or samples provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification providing samples where needed.  From a simple square picture frame gasket, to a more complete profile with cut-outs, notches or bolt holes - we can offer a solution.

Whether it’s a one off sample or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed recon foam gaskets in a range of sizes, these include various types of presses, CNC and kiss cut machines.  Our High load bearing foam gaskets can be produced plain or with a choice of finishes including foils, self adhesives or laminated to other materials, depending on the size and quantity of the gasket, they can be supplied as loosely packed parts, or kiss-cut on rolls for quicker and easier application.

What are High Load Bearing Foam Gaskets?

As with other polyurethane foams,  High density polyurethane foam is generally made from two ingredients: polyol, which is petroleum-based, and diisocyanate - these two ingredients make up the basis of polyurethane foams.

HLB or high density foam gaskets are  popular across many industries.  High load bearing PU foam gaskets offer excellent support and shock absorption.  High Load Bearing (HLB) foam cut parts are of particular interest to the electronics market where cushioning fragile components is key.

HLB foams can be manufactured in varying firmness levels (this firmness isn’t to be confused with density) for use in different applications and industries which require different levels of support.

Why Use High Load Bearing Foam Gaskets?

HLB foam gaskets are popular due to their load bearing properties and the resistance to impact and force they offer.  As with other Polyurethane foams,  High Load Bearing Polyurethane foams can be manufactured in various densities and also grades to include Flame Resistance properties.

High density foam gaskets are popular and known for their ‘viscoelastic’ properties - i.e the resistance and recovery of the material after force has been applied.  Although HLB foams can be manufactured in varying densities and levels of firmness, hybrid foams can also be made by laminating HLB foam with other lower density materials, which allows manufacturers to be able to offer bespoke levels of firmness to suit every gasket need.

Advantages of using High Load Bearing Foam Gaskets

High Load Bearing PU foam gaskets are not only found used as mechanical and engineering components, but also in many commercial and residential seating applications.

Due to their excellent viscoelastic properties, they are also great for use in automotive applications as interior fillings,  industrial applications such as buffer or impact pads or as seals and gaskets.

When used for packaging and transporting fragile components within the electronics market,  a large case insert or bespoke cut gasket can be made to hold products in place offering  a high level of protection and cushioning delicate items.   High Load Bearing PU is available in a choice of densities and thicknesses, but can also be laminated to other materials to offer bespoke levels of firmness.
