Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Firm Grade)

By working with worldwide material suppliers, Advanced Seals & Gaskets are able to offer Neoprene sponge rubber in a number of grades including a firm grade, sometimes also referred to as firm density neoprene sponge or firm grade neoprene sponge rubber.

As with many sponge materials, firm grade neoprene is manufactured or ‘cured’ and stocked in block form, which we can split down into sheets or join blocks together prior to splitting in order to produce continuous length or rolls of material in thicknesses starting at just 1mm.

Our on-site laminating service not only allows us to laminate layers of firm grade neoprene sponge together to create greater depths, but also enables us to supply neoprene sponge products coated with a choice of self-adhesives, foils or even laminated to other materials. Firm grade neoprene sponge can be supplied as full sheets or rolls of material, or further converted into a range of cut or fabricated parts such as gaskets, washers, strips or pads.

What is Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Firm Grade)?

Firm Grade Neoprene or Polychloroprene is a synthetic rubber which is produced by the polymerization of chloroprene. It is one of hundreds of closed cell materials on offer from ASG which can be used for a range of sealing or gap filling applications where there is exposure to chemicals, oil, petrol and many toxic substances. Firm Grade Neoprene Sponge Rubber is manufactured and cured in block or ‘bun’ offering all of the excellent properties of a standard neoprene, but with a higher density, tear resistance, and tensile strength.

Why use Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Firm Grade)?

Firm grade neoprene sponge is a strong and robust material which has been specially formulated to offer resistance to oils, chemicals, many toxic substances, UV, Ozone and is flammability tested to meet FMVSS302 meaning it can be found used across a number of industries.

Its closed cell structure makes it a popular choice for creating air, dust and water tight seals, also offering sound and vibration insulating properties. Being a firmer density variant, this material is more durable and suited to more demanding and heavy duty applications where more force and pressure will be applied to the material.

Different Grades of Neoprene Sponge Available

Medium Grade Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring  good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone. It has a density of 140kg/m3, a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Flame Retardant Neoprene sponge is grey in colour, can handle continuous temperatures from -40°C to 115°C and subjected to more vigorous fire testing ( FMVSS 302, UL94, AFNOR P9750), this makes the material ideal for use within construction and transport applications where a flame resistant barrier may be required.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Benefits of Neoprene Sponge Rubber (Firm Grade)

    • Readily available from stock
    • Durable, flexible with excellent recovery
    • Oil, petrol, chemical, UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration, impact and shock absorbent
    • Closed cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

Advantages of using Firm Grade Neoprene Sponge (firm grade)

Firm  grade neoprene offers many advantages, being one of ASG’s stock materials, products of any shape, size, thickness and finish can be turned around within a minimal timeframe, manufactured using the most cost effect processes and a range of state of the art machinery such as splitters, bandsaws, presses, kiss cut machines, coaters and oscillating knives.

The material itself is long lasting, with an operating temperature range of  40ºC to +85ºC, combined with UV, Ozone, weathering and flame resistance it can be utilised in both indoor and outdoor applications. Under minimal compression, firm grade neoprene sponge creates an excellent dust, air and watertight seal as having  good resistance to oils, chemicals and flame retardancy.   Being a flexible and robust material, firm grade neoprene sponge is suitable for use within many automotive, glazing, electronic, lighting, ventilation and building/construction and engineering applications.
