EPDM Sheet

EPDM Sheet

EPDM Sheet

EPDM Sheets are one of Advanced Seals & Gaskets most popular materials used in a diverse range of mechanical and engineering and automotive applications, often used to cut into seals or gaskets.

Using onsite facilities ASG can supply EPDM sheets in a continuous roll, sheets, or pre-cut parts.  EPDM sheets are available in a range of thicknesses and can also be laminated to other materials such as foam and cork to suit more technical applications.

What is EPDM?

EPDM is the abbreviated name for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, a synthetic rubber such a popular choice includes the fact that It is air and water tight, ages well without becoming brittle, offers good UV resistance, and works well in a wide range of temperatures. EPDM also provides excellent chemical resistance and good electrical properties. EPDM resists animal and vegetable oils, steam, water, and oxygenated solvents. As well as being able to withstand temperatures ranging from a low of -35°C up to a high of 120°C.

The fact that EPDM is waterproof and works well under pressure makes it the ideal material for gaskets to be used in deep sea applications, while its noise insulating properties mean it is often featured in household appliances that call for lower levels of noise and movement.

The advantages of using EPDM as a material

    • Thermal stability –   excellent temperature stability –40° to +120°C
    • Environmental resilience – EPDM gaskets are extremely resistant to wear, ageing, weather influences and UV-light.
    • Chemical resistance –   resistance to animal and vegetable oils/good resistance to acids
    • Durability –  long last lasting quality of an EPDM gasket greatly reduces expenditure on maintenance and replacements

    Grades of EPDM Sheet

We pride ourselves on providing exactly what each client needs and supply sheets in different, depending upon the demands of each application. Our commercial grades of EPDM are available in 40, 50, 60, and 70 shore hardness’s, the 40-50 shore rubber offers moderate pliability and elasticity, whilst the harder 60-70 shore offers higher abrasion resistant durability, but less pliability and flexibility.

We also utilise a Water Research Advisory Service (WRAS) Approved EPDM for use in Potable Water Applications, Food Safe Grade (blue or white in colour), Insertion rubber, and Peroxide Cured.  Speak to our sales team if you have any questions about the grade you require or would like to see samples.

    What is EPDM Sheet?

The strong, synthetic material from which EPDM sheets are produced makes them ideal for external sealing applications. As well as offering excellent resistance to abrasion, these sheets are resistant to being degraded by ageing, weathering, or ozone. Whilst operating well in the presence of vegetable oils, animal fats, and inorganic salts, EPDM sheet (or products manufactured from) should not be used in the presence of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, lubricating oils and petrol.

ASG supply EPDM sheeting for use in the widest possible range of sectors and provide gaskets which meet legal requirements regarding BS EN 681-1 for Potable Water compliancy and FDA approved. In addition, all of our gaskets, from standard to dovetail and picture frame, can be provided in high or low volumes depending upon client requirements.

    Self-adhesive EPDM Sheet

ASG can supply EPDM sheets in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish. The addition of an adhesive holds the material in place, ensuring it remains stable even if the application moves. Clients can choose from a selection of adhesives, depending upon the end users application and requirements.  Members of our sales team are on hand to answer questions or offer advice on choosing the right type.

    Why use EPDM Sheets?

Using a range of state of the art, automated machinery EPDM can be supplied with various grades, densities, sheet sizes, and a range of thicknesses.

EPDM sheets also offer oil and grease resistance, high resistance to the environmental impact of salt water, UV, ozone, and weathering meaning the products manufactured from this material offer stability and longevity. This flexible and durable material is an ideal choice in a vast range of industries including aerospace, MOD (Ministry of Defence), food industry, automotive, and construction.

ASG supply the full range of EPDM sheeting material primarily in black, with the exception of food grade EPDM which is available in blue and white.

    The Benefits of EPDM Sheet

    • Reducing operational noise
    • Absorbing shock
    • Cushioning against abrasion
    • Acting to seal a link between pipes or connectors
    • The resistance and transmission of electricity
    • Insulating electrical charges

EPDM Rubber – FDA Approved, WRAS Approved

Our Food Quality EPDM Rubber sheets are manufactured from material blue or white in colour which meets EU1935: 2004, FDA 21 CFR part 177 Section 2600 Allowable Substances.

We ensure our FDA Approved EPDM sheets meet stringent quality control, ensuring that the production facility is protected from the risks of contamination.

In addition, we offer WRAS Approved EPDM (The Water Regulation Advisory Scheme) which meets BS EN 681-1 and can be used in applications relating to Drinking and Potable water.  This is typically a black EPDM rubber with a cloth finish that has a resistance to Microbiological growth.
