EPDM Sponge Pads

EPDM Sponge Pads

EPDM Sponge Pads

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are the UK’s leading manufacturer of EPDM Sponge Pads, all converted in-house using state of the art machinery.  As EPDM sponge is one of our core stock material, it is readily available meaning we can produce any quantity of EPDM Sponge pad you require, from a 1 off sample to thousands off in individual cut parts or kiss-cut on rolls with a minimal lead time.

We have the ability to manufacture pads in thickness ranging from as little as 1mm, right up to 50mm from a single block.  We can also offer an in-house laminating service allowing us to offer thicknesses greater than 50mm or laminated to other materials if required.  Our cutting facilities mean we can produce square or rectangular pads in virtually any size using 1mtr wide sheets and rolls of material either using one of our many types of presses or on the band saw depending upon the size and quantities required.

What is EPDM?

EPDM is an abbreviation of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer which are the chemical components used to manufacture this sponge.  EPDM sponge is a strong, synthetic material that is closed cell making it an ideal material for internal and external sealing applications where minimal compression is required for the strips to work effectively.  It has an excellent lifespan even when used outdoors and is free from dust and fibre (closed cell variations only).

EPDM Sponge is a popular choice of material that is air and watertight, ages well without becoming brittle offers good UV resistance, and able to withstand a wide scale of temperatures ranging from -20°C up to a high of 85°C, excellent electrical insulation material, as well as having good resistance to ketones, ordinary diluted acids and alkalis EPDM foam has excellent resistance to ozone, UV and weathering as well as its general resistance to abrasion. EPDM foam is also flammability tested to meet FMVSS302 and UL94 HBF standards

EPDM foam has a weak resistance to oils and many petroleum derivatives and chemicals.

    Why use EPDM Sponge Pads?

All of our sponges and foams offer unique characteristics meaning they can be supplied for use within a huge variety of applications such as cushioning, packaging, or gap filling and sealing.  EPDM sponge pads are often used to create a seal between uneven surfaces, prevent the leakage of liquid and air, or to protect components from the intrusion of dust and debris.

EPDM sponge is a closed cell material, meaning that even when not compressed, its nitrogen gas filled cells prevent the passage of air, liquids, and gasses. It is the release of Nitrogen gas that gives the material its strong compression set and recovery characteristics. EPDM sponge pads are a popular product in a variety of applications for a number of reasons and can be found used within the construction industry, in automotive interiors, electronics, lighting systems ventilation glazing seals, and door sealing.

ASG supply a full range of EPDM sponge pads in black, with the option of white also available in medium density.

    Self-adhesive EPDM Foam Pads

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd can offer EPDM foam pads supplied plain or with self-adhesive to hold the pad in place.  The self-adhesive is available in acrylic, tissue or scrim with low, medium and high tack options, supplied with a removable release paper to 1 or both faces of the pad depending upon the application.

The Benefits of EPDM Sponge Pad

    • Noise/vibration/shock reduction
    • Flexible with good compression recovery
    • Cost effective
    • Naturally compressible to create the perfect seal to control air/water leaks
    • Closed cell structure prevents bacteria and mould build up
    • Excellent properties making it popular for use in a range of industries and applications
    • Can be produced as individual cut parts or kiss-cut to size on a roll

EPDM Foam Pad – High Temperature, Semi Open Cell, Firm Grade

High Temperature EPDM Foam pads are closed cell and highly flexible even at low temperatures, with an amazing temperature range of -50°c to +128°c.  High-Temperature EPDM foam has many excellent mechanical characteristics including thermal and insulation properties, making this material ideal for many industries and applications including HVAC, Refrigeration, Pipeline, Automotive, White goods, and Building & construction, etc.

Semi Open cell EPDM combines the flexibility of an open cell material with the excellent sealing capabilities of closed cell types once compressed. Semi open cell EPDM pads will allow for ingress of air, dust, moisture until compressed by 80% of their thickness, following this the product becomes water and air tight and behaves as a closed cell product.

Firm Grade EPDM Foam pads are a more resilient material that will not compress as much as the standard grades under load, also this material benefits from increased tear strength and suits some of the more demanding applications such as Automotive, White Goods, Marine, Defence, Building and Construction, etc
