GA25 Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam

GA25 Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are proud to be one of the UK’s leading suppliers of polyethylene materials, including chemically cross linked polyethylene foam, and products including rolls, sheets and cut parts. We have a huge storage facility enabling us to stock polyethylene rolls, blocks and sheets in a range of grades and densities, one of which includes chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam.

Chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam is manufactured in 3 forms, firstly in sheets without laminations, secondly in sheet form made up of laminated to thickness using multiple sheets and finally in continuous rolls in various lengths depending on thickness. Whether it's a roll or sheet, our onsite conversion facilities allow us to split material down into non-standard thicknesses, laminate them to create more depth, which is sometimes necessary for fabrications.

All of our chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam materials and parts can be supplied with a choice of finishes including plain or coated on one or both faces with a range of self-adhesives, foils and even layers of other materials.

What is Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam?

Chemically crosslinked polyethylene foam or XLPE is just one of many types of polyethylene (PE) foams ASG can offer.  This grade is manufactured using raw low-density polyethylene, which is heated up causing it to foam before it is extruded creating a ‘honeycomb’ type cell structure.

Chemically cross linked polyethylene foam can be manufactured as sheets or planks with or without laminations, or in continuous rolls, all of which can be split down, laminated to achieve greater thicknesses, laminated to other materials to create composite materials and supplied in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish.

Why use Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam?

Chemically cross linked polyethylene foam is a very tough, lightweight and long-lasting material.  As the material is manufactured by way of extrusion, it has a rougher outside ‘skin’ which adds to its strength and makes it resistant to damage caused by water, air or sunlight.  XLPE foams, also known as chemically cross linked polyethylene foam, can be used as insulation as they offer low thermal transmission and also as shock absorption foam, ideal for packaging.  For use with electronics, an anti-static compound can also be added.

The Advantages of Using Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam

XLPE (chemically cross linked polyethylene) offers a number of desirable properties, it's a very tough, lightweight and long-lasting material. The material is manufactured using extrusion methods which creates a rougher outside ‘skin’ which adds to its strength and makes it resistant to damage caused by water, air or sunlight.

XLPE foams (chemically cross linked polyethylene foams) can be used as insulation as they offer low thermal transmission and also as shock absorption foam, ideal for packaging.  For use with electronics, an anti-static compound can also be added.

Chemically cross linked polyethylene foam is easy to cut and convert into a range of other products including pads, strips, coils, gaskets, washers and even fabrications, for us in a range of industries such as construction, HVAC and packaging to name a few.

Benefits of using Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam

    • Thermal and acoustic insulation
    • Durability
    • Resistance to water, air or sunlight
    • Resistance to chemicals and fluids
    • Used for shock absorption or buoyancy
    • Light weight
    • Cutting and conversion  is easy
