RFI/EMI/EMC Conductive Silicone

As well as a wide selection of sponge and foam materials, Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd also offer a vast range of high quality solid rubber materials, including various grades of silicone.

One such grade is Conductive Silicone, this particular material will act as a low amperage conductor making it highly utilised for Radio Frequency Interference and Electromagnetic Interference shielding (RFI/EMI), whilst also providing protection against electrostatic discharge.  RFI/EMI Conductive Silicone Rubber is manufactured in thicknesses of 1.6mm, 2mm and 3.2mm at 915mm wide, and supplied in 1 meter widths up to 10 meters long, which can be cut down into smaller components using our selection of state of the art conversion machinery housed here on-site.

We are able to take these sheets and rolls of raw material, and cut them in various parts including cut strip, pads, washers and gaskets for use in a multitude of applications.

    What is RFI/EMI/EMC Conductive Silicone?

Conductive Silicone Rubber is just one of many special types of material supplied and converted here at ASG, which can be used for RFI/EMI applications.

The material is a carbon filled silicone which that acts as a low amp conductor, often used for the prevention and protection of static charge (electrostatic discharge) build up.  The generic term often used to describe a rubber material with conductive properties is ‘conductive rubber’.  These materials and products are used for the purpose of eliminating electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI noise) often found in electronics.

    Why use RFI/EMI/EMC Conductive Silicone?

Silicone (SI) rubber materials in general are an excellent  choice for producing high performance mechanicals seals and gaskets which can operate at a range of high and low temperatures.  Electrically conductive silicone rubber is made using the same formulation as standard silicone rubber, but incorporating conductive carbon particles throughout the material.

Conductive silicone rubber offers weathering, UV and Ozone resistance and a wide operating temperature range of -54°C to + 260°, making it suitable for a range of industries and applications including electronic enclosure shielding, and connectors in medical, defence, aerospace and telecommunications.

Other Grades of Silicone Rubber Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice, our most popular grades being:

    • High Temperature Silicone
    • FDA Approved Silicone
    • Metal Detectable Silicone
    • Fluorosilicone
    • Platinum cured Silicone

Benefits of Electrically Conductive Silicone Rubber?

    • High quality
    • Protection against electro-static discharge
    • Offers weathering, UV and Ozone resistance
    • Highly flexible
    • Wide operating temperature range

Advantages of using RFI/EMI/EMC Conductive Silicone Rubber?

For many electrical applications, customers will often choose Conductive Silicone rubber as it has a number of  excellent characteristics and features and is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Conductive Silicone rubber has a broad working temperature range of  -54°C to + 260°C for use in hot and cold environments and will not become brittle in freezing temperatures unlike many other rubber materials.  It is resistant to weathering, ozone, many chemicals and fungal growth and offers excellent tensile strength and tear resistance.

Conductive silicone rubber can be found in many applications and industries where electro-static shielding is required including military, defence, medical and telecommunications in the form of enclosure seals, covers, door seals, sleeves and isolation barriers.
