PVC Nitrile Sponge Sheet

PVC Nitrile Sponge Sheet

PVC Nitrile Sponge Sheet

Sheets of PVC Nitrile sponge are often readily available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, as the material is usually stocked in sheet or roll form ready for immediate despatch or for conversion.   PVC Nitrile sponge or PVC/NBR is manufactured in a range of thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm, with a skin finish on both faces in rolls of upto 30 meters long (lengths vary between thicknesses), however thickener materials may only be available as sheets.  For non-standard thicknesses we can run the rolls through our state of the art splitting machines to create thicknesses starting from just 1.5mm with a cell-cell or skin-cell finish.  Our onsite conversion facilities consist of various log cutters, slitters, bandsaws, presses and an oscillating knife, allowing us to convert sheets of material into finished parts including pads, washers, gaskets or strips - which can all be supplied plain, laminated with a choice of our many self-adhesives and foils or even laminated to other materials to create composite sheets or fabrications.

What are PVC Nitrile Sponge Sheets?

PVC Nitrile sponge rubber is manufactured using a combination of Nitrile and PVC polymer compounds blended together, creating a soft, flexible, dust free and class O closed cell material with a skin finish on both faces.  These sheets of material can be used to convert into components for use in shock or impact absorption, noise reduction and thermal insulating applications.  Being closed-cell PVC Nitrile can also be used for gas, moisture and air sealing, and so the sheets are often cut into pads, washers, gaskets or strips for this purpose.

Why use PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Sheets?

PVC Nitrile sponge is formulated so that the sheets and other components converted from the material can offer a number of properties making it suitable for use as air, gas and watertight sealing, as thermal insulation and to reduce unwanted or excess vibration and noise.  PVC nitrile sponge is impact, heat, UV and Ozone resistant and flame retardant.

PVC Nitrile sponge sheets are safe to use in building and construction applications as the material is dust free, therefore will not affect the air quality and tested to class O fire test specifications.   PVC Nitrile sponge sheets are a popular product  as they give the customer and end user the flexibility to be able to cut their own strips, pads, gaskets or washers as and when they’re required or when larger surface areas need to be covered.

The Benefits of using PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber

    • temperature range of -50°c to +116°c
    • Excellent ozone, weathering and UV light resistance
    • Can be used for thermal insulation
    • Flame Retardant to Class O standards
    • can be supplied in either plain or self-adhesive backed
    • prevents condensation and corrosion
    • Closed cell structure  prevents bacteria and mould build up

    Other Grades of Sponge Available

There are different types and grades of sponge rubber sheets available for use within many industries each with their own unique characteristics. Popular types of sponge rubber include:

EPDM sponge rubber is a high quality material with excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance, making it ideal for outdoor sealing.  EPDM sponge rubber rolls offer a wide operating temperature range, acoustic, thermal and vibration dampening properties and also good mechanical strength and abrasion resistant properties.   Grades of EPDM include medium, firm, high temp and semi open cell.

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring  good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Silicone sponge is a resilient material with high temperature stability, chemically inert and waterproof.   Silicone sponge is closed cell, available in a range of densities (firmness) it has a number of features which  make it suitable for outdoor sealing including Ozone, UV resistance and temperature flexibility, meaning it will not freeze/crack.

Viton sponge is another closed cell variety of sponge rubber offered by ASG.  It is manufactured with skin on both faces which increases its tear resistance.  It has a wide working temperature range of -25°C to +204°C and good resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, weathering and ozone.

Poron sponge is closed cell polyurethane sponge rubber, which offers excellent compression resistance, good chemical resistance and longevity.  This material is low out-gassing, non-fogging and will not become brittle and break down over time.

Industrial sponge rubber is a high quality, open cell natural sponge rubber.  The open cell structure enables excellent compression recovery, but also to form around uneven surfaces, limited absorption and circulation of gas and liquids if required.  It’s an excellent choice of material for us as protective sponge, expansion joints and anti-vibration applications.

Advantages of Using PVC Nitrile Sponge Sheets

PVC Nitrile sponge is manufactured in a range of roll or sheet sizes and thicknesses, which means they are available for immediate despatch, or quickly split and converted if bespoke thicknesses or cut products are required.

Sheets are often preferred by customers as they don't need to buy excessive amounts of material, therefore saving them money and reducing the amount of waste or left over material when only a small number of parts need to be cut.   PVC Nitrile sponge sheets offer moisture, flame, UV and Ozone resistant properties which prevents condensation, corrosion and the growth of bacteria, rot and fungus.

These sheets of material have some resistance to chemicals, grease and oil, combined with a working temperature range of -50°C to 116°C and is flammability tested to meet Class O specifications, meaning they don’t burn and flame spread is reduced making it suitable for use in HVAC, refrigerators, building & construction, sealing and pipework insulation.
