Plastic Gaskets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are able to cut and convert gaskets using most materials. One group of materials on offer is a range of plastics, available in numerous grades, colours and thicknesses, one of which includes a variety of PVC plastics or polyvinyl chloride which is recognised as one the most popular engineering plastics. PVC plastics can be supplied in sheets up to 2000mm x 1000mm in size and thicknesses between 1mm and 20mm as standard from which gaskets can be cut. As our PVC plastic  gaskets are produced in-house using state of the art machinery and a specially trained workforce,we can manufacture bespoke items to match our customers samples or drawings, from a simple rectangular picture frame gasket, to a more complex shape with cut-outs- we can offer a solution. Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine to quickly, accurately and cost effectively produce perfectly formed gaskets in a range of sizes, these machines include a number of presses, saws and CNC machines oscillating knives which can router out the parts, all produced with plain finish or with a choice of finishes including foils and choice of self-adhesives.

    What are PVC Plastic Gaskets?

PVC Plastic gaskets can be taken in the form of a strip or pad, but generally are intricately cut pieces of materials placed between two surfaces to create a seal or fill gaps.  Polyvinyl chloride or PVC plastic is one of the world's most popular synthetic plastics polymers, as it’s highly durable and can be produced in a range of formats including soft foams, rigid sheets and very thin flexible films.

    Why use PVC Plastic Gaskets?

Plastics are each manufactured using a mix of different compounds in order to produce materials and gaskets with specific properties. PVC Plastic gaskets are stable, inert with the sheets of material being extremely workable, holding its shape even during vigorous milling and sawing processes needed to produce gaskets.

PVC gaskets are highly chemically stable, self extinguishing and offer excellent compressive strength and electrical insulation properties, available in a range of colours which can be very transparent or opaque. Applications in which PVC plastic gaskets are more commonly found used include piping systems, chemical or acid tanks, cladding, electrical components and as fabricated parts used within machinery and equipment.

    Other Types of Plastic Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of plastic sheeting - our most popular materials being:

    • PTFE
    • Polycarbonate
    • Polypropylene
    • HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
    • ABS
    • Polyester
    • Acetal
    • Acrylic
    • Nylatron

Benefits of using PVC Plastic Gaskets

    • Cost-effective
    • Impact, corrosion, abrasion and weather resistant
    • High chemical resistance and self-extinguishing
    • Strong and rigid
    • Can be easily machined, heated and bent, glued and moulded
    • low heat and electricity conductivity for use with electrical insulation

Advantages of Using PVC Plastic Gaskets

Using plastic gaskets offers a host of benefits, firstly they’re cheaper and lighter in weight compared to metal and some sponge alternatives. PVC plastic gaskets are strong, rigid and lightweight, offering durability and longevity as PVC plastic is resistant to chemical and weather corrosion, shock and abrasion which means it can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications. PVC plastic gaskets can be cut from flat sheet by way of sawing, milling, drilling or bending (heated and manipulated) or moulded into bespoke complex profiles. PVC plastic gaskets are also non-toxic, they do not conduct electricity so they can be used for electrical applications and although PVC plastic will burn, it is self-extinguishing due to having a high chlorine content.
