PVC Nitrile Sponge Strip

PVC Nitrile Sponge Strip

PVC Nitrile Sponge Strip

PVC Nitrile Sponge strips are just one of thousands of products Advanced Seals & Gaskets manufacture and supply, using materials sourced from high quality suppliers, one of which includes PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber. PVC Nitrile sponge or PVC/NBR is manufactured in a range of thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm, with a skin finish on both faces in rolls of up to 30 meters long from, however thickener materials may only be available as sheets from which strips can be cut. For non-standard thicknesses we can run the rolls through our state of the art splitting machines, allowing us to produce strips in thicknesses from just 1.5mm with a cell-cell or skin-cell finish. Using our customers samples, drawings or given dimensions, we can produce made to measure PVC Nitrile sponge strips using our bandsaws, strippers, log cutters or even presses depending upon the size and quantity of strips required.  In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitive priced strips, which can be cut from sheets or rolls from 4mm in width and just up to 30 meters in length (depending on thickness). During the conversion process we can laminate layers of PVC Nitrile material to produce greater depths, supply them plain or laminated with a choice of self-adhesives and foils.

What are PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Strips?

PVC Nitrile sponge rubber is made from a blend of Nitrile and PVC polymer compounds, creating a soft, flexible, dust free and class O closed cell material with a skin finish on both faces.  PVC Nitrile sponge strips are often purchased for use in the same way as a gasket, whereby  they can be used for gap filling,  shock or impact absorption, noise reduction and as a thermal insulator, being closed cell PVC Nitrile can also be used for gas, moisture and air sealing.  PVC Nitrile sponge strips like these can sometimes be called foam tapes, sealing strips, gasket tape or even insulation tape.

Why use PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Strips?

PVC Nitrile strips are manufactured using a closed cell material, formulated to offer a number of properties making it suitable for use as air, gas and watertight seals, as thermal insulation and to reduce unwanted or excess vibration and noise.  PVC nitrile sponge strips are impact, heat, UV and Ozone resistant and flame retardant. PVC Nitrile materials are safe to use in building and construction applications as it is dust free, therefore will not affect the air quality and tested to class O fire test specifications.  PVC Nitrile sponge strips are a popular product as they can be either cut down to pre-cut lengths or as coils of material for customers to cut them down as and when they’re needed.

The Benefits of using PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Strips

    • temperature range of -50°c to +116°c
    • Excellent ozone, weathering and UV light resistance
    • Can be used for thermal insulation
    • Flame Retardant to Class O standards
    • can be supplied in either plain or self-adhesive backed
    • prevents condensation and corrosion
    • Closed cell structure   prevents bacteria and mould build up

    Other Grades of Sponge Available

There are different types and grades of sponge rubber strips available for use within many industries each with their own unique characteristics. Popular types of sponge rubber include:

EPDM sponge rubber is a high quality material with excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance, making it ideal for outdoor sealing. EPDM sponge rubber rolls offer a wide operating temperature range, acoustic, thermal and vibration dampening properties and also good mechanical strength and abrasion resistant properties. Grades of EPDM include medium, firm, high temp and semi open cell.

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone. It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Silicone sponge is a resilient material with high temperature stability, chemically inert and waterproof. Silicone sponge is closed cell, available in a range of densities (firmness) it has a number of features which make it suitable for outdoor sealing including Ozone, UV resistance and temperature flexibility, meaning it will not freeze/crack.

Viton sponge is another closed cell variety of sponge rubber offered by ASG. It is manufactured with skin on both faces which increases its tear resistance. It has a wide working temperature range of -25°C to +204°C and good resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, weathering and ozone.

Poron sponge is closed cell polyurethane sponge rubber, which offers excellent compression resistance, good chemical resistance and longevity. This material is low out-gassing, non-fogging and will not become brittle and break down over time.

Industrial sponge rubber is a high quality, open cell natural sponge rubber. The open cell structure enables excellent compression recovery, but also to form around uneven surfaces, limited absorption and circulation of gas and liquids if required. It’s an excellent choice of material for us as protective sponge, expansion joints and anti-vibration applications.

Advantages of Using PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Strips

Rolls of PVC Nitrile are manufactured in a range of sizes and thicknesses, which means they can be ready for immediate despatch, or quickly and easily split and cut down into strips of varying sizes, despatch within a minimal lead time.

Cutting components from rolls of materials also allows for a better yield to be achieved, which in return reduces waste and therefore cost, especially when a large quantity of parts are required. PVC Nitrile sponge strips offer moisture, flame, UV and Ozone resistant properties which prevents condensation, corrosion and the growth of bacteria, rot and fungus.

This material has some resistance to chemicals, grease and oil, combined with a working temperature range of -50°C to 116°C and is flammability tested to meet Class O specifications, meaning the material doesn’t burn and flame spread is reduced making it suitable for use in HVAC, refrigerators, building & construction, sealing and pipework insulation.
