EPDM Sponge Roll

One of Advanced Seals & Gaskets most popular products are EPDM foam rolls, also referred to as EPDM Sponge.  These rolls are manufactured in-house using blocks of foam, which enable us to produce rolls in any required length and split to your exact required thicknesses starting from as little as 1mm, as standard they are stocked in 1mtr wide x 10mtr long rolls, but depending on the thickness of the roll required, these can be made in lengths of up to 100mtrs in length.  As EPDM foam is always held in stock, we can offer a quick turnaround on any quantity of material.  EPDM foam rolls are often purchased as they can be later cut down into further products by the customer, such as pads, strips, gaskets, or sheets.

What is EPDM?

EPDM is an abbreviation of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer which are the chemical components used to manufacture this foam, it is a strong, synthetic, closed cell material making it ideal for internal and external sealing applications where minimal compression is required for the roll to work effectively, has an excellent lifespan even when used outdoors and is free from dust and fibre (closed cell variations only).

It is a popular choice that is air and watertight, ages well without becoming brittle offers good UV resistance, and able to withstand a wide scale of temperatures ranging from -20°C up to a high of 85°C, excellent electrical insulation material, as well as having good resistance to ketones, ordinary diluted acids, and alkalis

EPDM foam has a weak resistance to oils and many petroleum derivatives and chemicals.

    Why use EPDM Foam Roll?

EPDM foam rolls are used to produce a number of important components in many applications such as creating a flexible seal between two or more mating or uneven surfaces, preventing the leakage of liquids, air, and the intrusion of debris such as dust and dirt.

EPDM Foam is a closed cell material, meaning that even when not compressed, its nitrogen gas filled cells prevent the passage of air, liquids, and gasses. It is the release of Nitrogen gas that gives EPDM foam its strong compression set and recovery characteristics. EPDM foam rolls are a popular product in a variety of applications for a number of reasons, it has excellent resistance to ozone, UV, and weathering as well as its general resistance to abrasion. EPDM foam is also flammability tested to meet FMVSS302 and UL94 HBF standards therefore this material can be found used for the manufacture of automotive interiors, electronic, lighting systems ventilation glazing seals, cladding systems, and door seals.

ASG supplies a full range of EPDM foam sponge strips in black, with the option of white also available in medium density.

    Self-adhesive EPDM Foam Roll

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd can offer EPDM foam rolls supplied plain or with self-adhesive backing.  The self-adhesive is available in a number of options including scrim, tissue, acrylic, low, medium, and high tack options, and is supplied with a removable release paper to 1 or both faces of the roll depending upon the application.  Our members of staff can offer further advice and information to help you decide which option is best suited to your needs.

    Grades of EPDM Foam

ASG uses a variety of quality grades and densities of EPDM foam to manufacture rolls, each suited to individual applications. These include medium or firm densities, high temperature, and semi-open cell varieties.

The Benefits of EPDM Foam Roll

    • Noise/vibration/shock reduction
    • Flexible with good compression recovery
    • Cost effective
    • Naturally compressible to create the perfect seal to control air/water leaks
    • Closed cell structure prevents bacteria and mould build up
    • Excellent properties making it popular for use in a range of industries and applications

EPDM Foam Rolls – High Temperature, Semi Open Cell, Firm Grade

High Temperature grade EPDM Foam rolls are converted using a material that is closed cell and highly flexible even at low temperatures with an amazing temperature range of -50°c to +128°c.  High-Temperature EPDM foam has many excellent mechanical characteristics including thermal and insulation properties, making this material ideal for many industries and applications including HVAC, Refrigeration, Pipeline, Automotive, White goods, and Building & construction, etc.

Rolls can be manufactured using Semi Open cell EPDM, this material combines the flexibility of an open cell material with the excellent sealing capabilities of closed cell types once compressed. Semi open cell EPDM will allow for the ingress of air, dust, moisture until compressed by 80% of their thickness, following this the product becomes water and airtight and behaves as a closed cell product.

Firm Grade EPDM Foam rolls are used by customers who require a more resilient material that will not compress as much as the standard grades under load.  This material benefits from increased tear strength and suits some of the more demanding applications such as Automotive, White Goods, Marine, Defence, Building and Construction, etc.
