Basotech Foam Sheet

ASG stock a number Polyurethane foam sheet materials in various grades, with Melamine or Basotech being just one type on offer. Within the industry, this material may be recognised as Melamine foam, Basotect foam, Melamine Basotect foam or Melamine Polyurethane foam which we use to manufacture melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets.

As with many other PU foams, Melamine foam is manufactured in jumbo or master blocks (buns), at 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick, which are held in stock ready to be split to produce melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets which are 1250mm wide and in one or two meter lengths.

Our in-house state of the art conversion facilities enable us to be able to produce and supply these sheets of Melamine PU foam in thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm, and even laminated to other materials as composite basotect polyurethane foam sheets.

These sheets can be supplied plain or coated with a choice of self-adhesives, alternatively further converted using our range of presses, log cutters and bandsaws which allows us to produce finished cut parts such as gaskets, strips, pads of washers.

What Are Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam Sheets?

Melamine or "Basotect" is a low density, open cell PU foam, formulated from melamine resin (a duroplastic synthetic material), creating light weight, flexible and very soft sheets of material, available in a selection of colours ranging from very dark grey, to white each suited to different applications and to be aesthetically pleasing.

Melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets are converted in-house using jumbo blocks of foam, which are fed through our state of the art splitting machines to accurately create sheets at the desired thickness. Melamine Basotect foam is often taken by customers in melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets form as it allows them the flexibility to cut down into components such as pads, strips, gaskets, washers or sheets of any size as and when they are required without taking excessive amounts of material.

Foam sheets are often used for insulation purposes, providing thermal resistance and helping to maintain a comfortable temperature in buildings. They can be used in walls, roofs, and floors to prevent heat loss or gain.

Foam sheets are known for their cushioning properties, making them suitable for packaging materials and protective padding in various applications, including shipping and transportation.

Foam sheets can absorb sound waves, making them useful in applications where noise reduction or acoustical control is desired. This is commonly seen in recording studios, theaters, and other spaces where sound quality is important.

Foam sheets come in various types and densities, offering versatility in applications. They can be easily cut or shaped to fit specific needs, making them adaptable for different projects.

Foam sheets are generally lightweight, which can be advantageous for applications where weight is a consideration, such as in the automotive or aerospace industries.

Some foam materials exhibit water-resistant properties, making them suitable for use in damp or humid environments.

Why Use Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam Sheets?

Components cut from basotect polyurethane foam sheets can be found used in a range of applications and industries for a number of reasons.   Its abrasive nature makes it excellent for cleaning surfaces such as glass, tiles and ceramic hobs (recognised as the ‘Magic Sponge’), it can be used in high temperature applications reaching up to 240°C and is naturally flame resistant even without additional additives.

Basotect polyurethane foam sheets can be found used within building & construction industries in the form of acoustic and thermal insulation panelling in studios and theatres or used within machinery and marine equipment for sound and vibration dampening.

As well as insulation applications, it is also widely used within the HVAC industry to create air conditioning or ventilation components which can be precisely cut for a perfect fit even on curved surfaces.

Benefits Of Using Melamine Basotect PU Foam

  • Basotect polyurethane foam sheets has an open cell structure allowing for water absorption
  • Abrasive properties
  • Flame resistance
  • Melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets has high sound and thermal insulation properties
  • Lightweight
  • Heat endurance

The Advantages of Using Melamine Basotect Foam Sheets

Melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets are ideal for customers who only have a small area to cover, and can save them money on transport costs and material waste if only a small number of parts are being cut.

Components cut from melamine basotect foams are highly durable and can be used in a broad spectrum of applications and industries such as cleaning, thermal insulation, sound absorption and insulation and filtration components within the HVAC industry.

This foam is very light weight which makes the components ideal for fitting to walls and ceilings within buildings and also as interiors on trains and aerocraft. It is suitable for very high temperature applications - remaining stable even at 240⁰C and is naturally flame retardant without the need for further additives during the compounding process.

Melamine Basotect Polyurethane Foam is manufactured as standard in a block size of 2500mm long x 1250mm wide x 500mm thick, which can be cut and split down into melamine basotect polyurethane foam sheets or pads of various lengths, thickness and widths - supplied in a plain or self adhesive option - available in several shades of grey and white to be physically more attractive when placed in position.

Other Grades of Open Cell PU Foams Available:

Polyester has an open cell structure suited for use as filtration media for sound - ideal for speaker panels.

Polyether is made up of large open cells which allow for airflow without retaining moisture, making it perfect for use as filtration foams, aquarium foams and marine equipment.

Class O Acoustic is found used in many acoustic and thermal insulation applications within building and construction industries. It can also be used in heating and ventilation applications where a fire rated material is essential.

Reticulated Foam is recognised by its fully open cellular structure and appearance, which is ideal for air and liquid filtration, even when used with mild acids and alkalis, fuel, organic chemicals, oils, lubricants and detergents. Available in 10ppi 20ppi 30ppi 45ppi 60ppi 80ppi (pores per inch).
