Flame Retardant Neoprene Gasket

Flame Retardant Neoprene Gasket

Flame Retardant Neoprene Gasket

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we manufacture thousands of sponge and foam gaskets on a daily basis in a diverse range of materials, including those made using flame retardant neoprene sponges. This material itself is manufactured in block form but is easily converted into a number of finished usable products.

Using state of the art machinery, we are able to split the blocks or buns down to rolls or sheets starting at as little as 1 mm thick from which gaskets can be cut, supplied in a plain finish or coated with a choice of adhesive tapes and foils.

As all the conversion is carried out on-site, we are able to manufacture bespoke items to match our customer's samples or drawings, from a simple rectangular picture frame gasket to more complex shapes with cut-outs, notches or bolt holes.

Whether it's a small sample run or a multi-thousand batch, we have a choice of machines including presses and CNC machines designed to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets every time.

What are Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Gaskets?

Flame retardant neoprene is also often referred to as polychloroprene or CR, it is one of many materials on offer from our vast catalogue.

This grey coloured, closed-cell, general-purpose material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, offering all of the properties of a standard neoprene such as good weathering, oil and chemical resistances, but with the addition of being used as a flame-resistant barrier for fire risk applications as it meets flammability tests of FMVSS302 / UL94-HF1.

Our standard flame retardant gaskets can be in the form of a strip or pad but are generally an intricately cut shaped piece of material placed between two surfaces to create a low-pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris.

Why use Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Gaskets?

Flame Retardant Neoprene sponge rubber has a range of desirable properties which means it can be found used within countless applications. Neoprene FR sponge gaskets are used to fill gaps between uneven surfaces, offers fair resistance to oils, acids and alkalis with good resistance to gases, UV, ozone, weathering and oxidation and its closed cell structure prevents the mould and fungus growth and provides an excellent seal against water and air with minimal compression. It has a wide working temperature range of -40°C to +80℃ and is tested to Flame Resistance FMVSS302 and UL94-HF1 Pass and is great for use in abrasive applications.

The Advantages of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Gaskets

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is a premium grade material, manufactured to offer all the properties and features of standard neoprene sponge, but also conforms to flammability tests  UL94-HF1 and FMVSS302 for use in applications where the risk of fire is present.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range which can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications, manufactured and cured as blocks which are easy to convert into many bespoke products including gasket using a range of techniques and processes and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.

Under minimal compression, neoprene FR grade sponge gaskets will provide excellent dust,  air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil. Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene FR sponges are often used in many applications including the production of flame retardant gaskets within transport, chemical seals and weather strips.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is another of ASG’s core materials, held in stock as a block, sheet and roll, ready for immediate despatch and gasket conversion.

Benefits of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

    Different Types Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with several material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of neoprene grades:

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge gaskets are also closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM, and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
