Polyethylene Foam Gasket

Polyethylene Foam Gasket

Polyethylene Foam Gasket

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are recognised as one of the UK’s leading convertors and suppliers of Polyethylene products. We have extensive storage facilities enabling us to stock blocks (buns), rolls and sheets of polyethylene, in a range of densities and colours all ready to be converted into one of 1000’s of products including gaskets.

Other terms sometimes used to describe this material are block foam, PE foam, polyethylene sponge or LDPE (low density Polyethylene) foam.  Polyethylene foam blocks can be split down to thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm in 2 metre x 1 metre sized sheets or rolls - made by joining blocks of material together prior to splitting them, both of which can be used to further convert into cut gaskets.

As our polyethylene foam gaskets are produced in-house on state of the art machinery, we can manufacture bespoke items to match our customers samples or drawings, from a simple rectangular picture frame gasket, to a more complex profile with cut-outs and notches - we can offer a solution. Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets in a range of sizes, these include a number of presses, CNC and kiss cut machines. Our Polyethylene foam gaskets can be produced plain or with a choice of finishes including foils, self adhesives or laminated to other materials.  Depending on the size and quantity of the gasket, they can be supplied as loosely packed parts, or kiss-cut on a roll for quick and efficient use.

    What are Polyethylene Foam Gaskets?

Polyethylene Foam Gaskets can take the form of a strip or pad, but are generally an intricately cut shaped piece of material placed between two surfaces to create a low pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris when under compression. The Polyethylene foam used in the production of these gaskets is a chemically cross-linked foam, part of the Thermoplastic foam family, which is foamed prior to curing to create small, uniform, closed-cell structure and a high quality, lightweight material.  Polyethylene materials demonstrate a number of resistances and insulation properties as well as being available in a variety of grades such as EEV, EVA, Conduction, Anti-static and Flame Retardant, densities, colours. Densities in which Polyethylene foam are produced include 25kg, 30kg, 45kg, 60kg, 100kg - the density of the foam is measured as the weight or mass of the foam across its entire volume or within a cubic meter (m3). The denser the foam, the heavier and more compact the material is, this can vary some of the properties of the material and how it performs.

    Why use Polyethylene Foam Gaskets?

Polyethylene foam gaskets can be cut from rolls or sheets of material in a range of grades and densities offering various properties for use in different applications, with many available in a choice of colours. Polyethylene foam gaskets regardless of the grade used have  the same following properties - a low compression set, are resistant to water, oils, chemicals and weather. Being made from a closed cell material, they have a good tear resistance making them easy to convert even using the most vigorous processes, they don't support mold or fungus growth.

Polyethylene foam and gaskets cut from this material have a number of desirable properties including resistance to wear and tear, Ozone, UV and a working temperature range of -60°C - +90°C. Polyethylene  also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control and can be used for thermal insulation.

Polyethylene foam gaskets  are used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces, provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas, dust and liquids, and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment.Polyethylene foam can easily be compressed, which is a requirement In order for a gasket to work effectively, as it needs to compress and fill the entire space to create a pressure and air tight protective seal.

Advantages of Using Polyethylene Foam Gaskets

Polyethylene is a popular material for use in gasket production, as it is made in a choice of grades and densities giving customers the benefit of having a number of advantages and a choice of properties allowing the material to be utilised in numerous industries and applications from dust seals to flame retardant gaskets. Polyethylene foam is a man-made material, with a closed cell structure  which can be used in sealing applications against liquid, gases and particles.

Polyethylene foam also has a number of desirable properties including a high resistance to wear and tear, Ozone, UV, resilience to repeated impact and a working temperature range of -60°C to +90°C. It also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control, shock absorption and can be used for thermal insulation.  Polyethylene foams are aesthetically pleasing, with a nice texture which are easy to fabricate, laminate and cut into parts using a range of techniques and processes for use within the theatrics, building and construction, HVAC, automotive, packaging and sports industries.
