Advanced Seals & Gaskets pride themselves as being one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of quality gaskets, cut from a whole range of non-metallic materials including EPDM. This material is usually manufactured in roll form at 1.4 meters wide x 10meters long and in thicknesses starting at just 1mm, which are stocked by ASG ready to be shipped or converted into various other usable products including gaskets.
As we manufacture our EPDM rubber gaskets in-house, we can produce bespoke items to match our customers’ samples and drawings, from a simple picture frame gasket, to a more complex shape with cut-outs, notches or bolt holes. Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine designed to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets every time.
Solid EPDM is commonly used as it has an excellent list of resistance and strength properties, available in a range of specialist grades and in a choice of hardnesses ranging from 40°- 90° shore. EPDM rubber is a preferred choice in applications where there is exposure to water, chemicals and ozone, such as automotive, household appliances and waste systems.
What are EPDM Gaskets?
EPDM is a synthetic rubber, an abbreviation of Ethylene, Propylene, Diene and Monomer, a durable rubber which can be manufactured in a variety of grades and hardnesses (the shore hardness is measured using a shore durometer which indicates the level of resistance to indentation, the higher number on the scale indicate a greater resistance - harder the material/lower number indicate less resistance- softer the material).
An EPDM gasket can be produced in the form of a strip, pad or washer, but are generally intricately cut shaped pieces of material placed between two surfaces to create a seal, or to fill gaps between uneven surfaces.

Why use EPDM Gaskets?
When cut to the correct shape and size EPDM rubber gaskets create a tight, leak-proof seal that will remain unaffected when under impact.
EPDM gaskets have an operating temperature range of -30°C to + 110°C and are resistant to environmental extremes such as UV rays, O-zone and weather making them suitable for both internal and external applications. EPDM gaskets provide good general resistance to animal and vegetable oils, chemicals, steam, oxygenated solvents and electrical currents.
EPDM material is waterproof and works well under pressure making it the ideal material for use in roofing, deep-sea and solar panel applications, while its noise insulating properties mean the gaskets are often featured in household appliances that call for lower levels of noise and movement. EPDM rubber is available in a number of hardnesses and grades, all of which can be supplied as bespoke cut gaskets or in roll and sheet form for customers to cut their own.
The Advantages of Using EPDM Rubber Gaskets
There are many advantages to using EPDM rubber gaskets within many applications including its extensive list of properties and the variety of grades available. EPDM is ideal for use where a strong, versatile material is required in an environment where there may be exposure to the ozone, UV, chemicals, water, steam and acids.
The EPDM rubber material is readily available in a range of thicknesses, making the process of cutting gaskets a quicker process, the tear resistance of the material allows us to accurately cut and extract gaskets to meet our customer exact specifications without causing damage to the final product.
By producing our EPDM gaskets on-sites means we can make them order and even offer a choice of adhesives, foils or other materials to create a unique product.
Benefits of EPDM Gaskets
- Ozone, water and weather-resistant
- Variety of grades and hardnesses available
- good resistance to animal and vegetable oils, chemicals, steam, oxygenated solvents
- Can be cut into bespoke gaskets in any quantity
- Creates an air and water tight seal
Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with many material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when looking for EPDM gaskets, other grades of solid EPDM include:
FDA grades - Food quality EPDM is available in blue and white options. This synthetic material is suitable for use in food and pharmaceutical processing applications. Food quality EPDM offers good resistance to animal and vegetable oils, it's non-toxic and has a working temperature of -25°C up to +140°C.
WRAS approved EPDM rubber is suitable for use in potable water applications (water for human consumption) The material is resistant to weathering, ozone, ageing and chemicals and meets standards BS 6920-1:2000 and BS 6920-1:2014. WRAS approved EPDM has a working temperature of -40°C up to +120°C.
Peroxide Cured - Vulcanising or curing EPDM using peroxide (as opposed to Sulphur) produces a more superior material with higher temperature resistance, heat resistance and improved oil and chemical resistance, this material is suitable for demanding applications such as nuclear facilities.
Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of EPDM you require for your application, samples of our materials are readily available for your perusal.
