BF1000 Silicone Rubber

Advanced Seals and Gaskets Ltd pride themselves on being one of the UK’s largest suppliers of non-metallic materials including foams, sponges, rubber, plastics and specialist papers.  One such material is BF-1000 silicone, an ultra-soft, flame retardant sponge, which is supplied in sheets or rolls at 915mm wide, and manufactured in standard thicknesses ranging from 1.6mm - 25.4.

ASG has extensive on-site conversion facilities comprising of various splitters, presses, bandsaws, slitters, coaters and CNC machines, which we can convert silicone sponge into a whole host of bespoke parts including gaskets, washers, pads or strips, coated in a range of self-adhesives and foils.

What is BF-1000 Silicone?

BF-1000 silicone sponge is an extra soft, lightweight and durable material.  Although the material is an open cell, a sufficient level of compression will allow the material to create a moisture, dust and air tight seal. BF-1000 silicone sponge is an excellent choice for sealing external enclosures, protection from shock and heat while providing stability, cushioning and anti-vibration.  BF-1000 silicone sponge offers excellent recovery, high compressibility so that it can be manipulated to conform to difficult gaps and spaces and is flame retardant.

    Why use BF-1000 Silicone?

Using a BF-1000 silicone sponge offers a range of desirable properties and many of our customers utilize the shock and vibration absorbent, durable and stabilization qualities of the material. As BF-1000 are so soft and highly adaptable they are easy to apply and manipulate into position, this ensures that the material can be positioned to have the highest impact on the application.

BF-1000 silicone sponge sheets are used for thermal insulation, heat protection, cushioning and padding, offering a working temperature range of  -55°C to +200°C, remaining flexible and resistant to brittleness even at the lower temperature range.   There are many applications that use BF-1000 silicone sponge, a selection of which include smoke seals, seals within light housings, seals and gaskets within the HVAC, automotive, railway and aerospace industries and gap fillers for noise or vibration dampening.

Advanced Seals & Gaskets in-house conversion facilities have a range of specialist machinery that can quickly and easily convert BF-1000 silicone sponge into many bespoke usable parts such as gaskets, washers, seals, strips and pads, all of which can be supplied with a self-adhesive covering.

The Advantages of Using BF-1000 Silicone Sponge

There are many advantages to using a BF-1000 silicone sponge such as the highly efficient sealing capabilities of the material, it offers UV, ozone, weathering and extreme temperature resistance making it suitable for both internal and external use.

BF-1000 is highly compressible allowing for easy manipulation allowing a better fit within variable gaps and shapes, and when enough compression is applied, the open cell material will still form moisture, air and dust-tight seal.

BF-1000 can be easily converted into a range of bespoke shapes and sizes to create gaskets, washers or sealing strips, offering heat, impact and vibration protection which can be used within a range of applications as an electrical enclosure, window or lighting seals, placed within HVAC systems and widely used within the automotive, rail and aerospace industries.

    Benefits of Using BF-1000 Silicone

    • Highly compressible and adaptable so can be manipulated to fit into awkward gaps
    • FDA Approved (white)
    • Excellent sealing capabilities when under compression
    • Flame Retardant to UL 94 / Listed V-0 and HF-1
    • Resistant to temperature extremes, UV and ozone
    • Excellent compression-set and creep resistance

    Different Grades of Silicone Sponge

HT-800 is a versatile silicone sponge of medium firmness that offers the lightness of foam along with the sealing capabilities of sponge rubber. It is available in black, grey and red and offers excellent memory and recovery, resistance to UV, ozone and extreme temperatures, is flame retardant to UL94 HF1 and V-0, low smoke and has a wide operating temperature range of -55° to +200°.

Flame Retardant Silicone Sponge is a naturally self-extinguishing material, but certain applications within the aerospace and rail industries require higher standards of self-extinguishing and low smoke emissions found in Flame Retardant Silicone Sponge.  This material is UL94-V0 rated, self-extinguishing, resistant to UV, ozone and weathering and offers an extremely wide working temperature range of -60°C - +230°C.

Food Quality Silicone Sponge Rubber is a medium density, closed-cell, FDA approved material. With good thermal insulation, resistance to UV, ozone and weathering, and an operating temperature range of -40°C up to +200°C, this material is suited to the food and drink industry where a soft gasket with a high-temperature resistance is required.
