Evazote (VA35) Polyethylene Foam

Evazote (VA35) Polyethylene Foam

Evazote (VA35) Polyethylene Foam

Polyethylene Foams are amongst one of the most popular materials converted here at ASG.  It’s a robust and durable material available in the choice of grades, densities and colours, one of which includes Evazote (VA35) Polyethylene.  Evazote® Foams are available in two grades - EV and VA, both of which are produced in a choice of densities they are both closed cell cross-linked ethylene copolymer foams, and look almost identical to Plastazote variants, however Evazote foams are stronger and more resilient due to ethylene vinyl acetate content used within the compound.

EVA foam is produced by a copolymerization reaction between vinyl acetate and ethylene, resulting in a versatile material which can be used as an alternative to other materials such as PVC foam.  As with other polyethylene foams, VA35 is manufactured in block form which can be split down into sheets of various thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm and supplied in 1m x 1m or 2m x 1m sheet sizes. As we offer in-house conversion and lamination services, not only can we split materials down, we can also laminate layers together to create very thick sheets or even composite materials, and apply self adhesives or foil facings.  Our onsite manufacturing and conversion facilities consist of a number of presses, log cutters, strippers, bandsaws and an oscillating knife, enabling us to produce a number of Evazote products from sheets including gaskets, washers, strips, pads and fabrications.

    What is Evazote (VA35) Foam?

VA35 Plastazote foam, like other polyethylene foams are manufactured in block or ‘bun’ form, in a range of densities and colours for use in different applications.  VA35 and other Plastazote foams are manufactured under high pressure, high temperature and using Nitrogen expansion to create a high quality material with uniform cell size and is water repellent.   VA35 is a closed cell foam, with the EV additive creating a noticeable ‘rubbery/spongy’ feel.  Evazote foams are available in 2 grades at different densities, an EV and VA, with the main difference being the EV has a higher VA content and the VA has a lower VA content meaning it will not feel quite as rubbery.

    Why use Evazote (VA35) Foam?

VA35 Evazote foams are a tough and flexible material and as  with other polyethylenes they have a closed cell structure meaning it is impenetrable to air and moisture, meaning it will not absorb liquids or allow them to pass through, also resistant to many chemicals.   Although softer in feel than some other plastazote and polyethylene foams, VA35 is more resilient and durable enabling it to absorb impact and pressure without deteriorating or tearing making it perfect for use within footwear, sports and leisure applications or manufactured as knee pads.  VA35 and Evazote foams in general are also found widely used within the building and construction industries where they are used to create seals and expansion joints. VA35 foams also offer vibration and impact absorption, resistances to chemicals and weather/environmental influences, thermal insulation and acoustical properties and buoyancy.

    Different Grades of Polyethylene Foam

Having a network of manufacturers and suppliers, allows ASG to offer a full range of polyethylene materials, many of which are readily available from stock for a quick turnaround.  Below is just a selection of some of our popular polyethylene material types we can offer:

    Benefits of Using VA35 Evazote

    • Lightweight & durable
    • Good impact and shock absorbing properties
    • Water repellent and buoyant
    • Excellent chemical, oils, acids, alkalis and solvent resistance
    • Good thermal insulation
    • Non-toxic and low odour

Advantages of Using VA35 Evazote Foam

VA35 Evazote foam is a popular foam offering users countless advantages, and is highly utilised in many industries and applications.   VA35 Evazote foam is a man-made material, designed  to suit a range of requirements offering features such as being odourless, lightweight, buoyant, non-toxic and offer resistance to many oils, solvents, acids, alkalis, it’s closed cell surface and structure does not allow the absorption of liquids and is easy to keep clean, as well as being weatherproof and UV stable. VA35 Evazote foams are usually the preferred choice  for the production of sealing strips which require excellent recovery from repetitive impact and compression.

VA35 Evazote offers a wide functioning temperature range, maintaining its properties in temperatures as low as -70°C to as high as +75°C.  VA35 components can be manufactured from block which uses processes such as splitting, pressing, die cutting, routering and log cutting, as well as being moulded into a specific profile.  The cost effectiveness, ease of machining and converting this material combined with the flexibility of being also able to by moulded parts means VA35 foams can be used in a range of applications and industries including shock and impact absorbing industrial gaskets, boat fenders, gym mats, padding in sports equipment padding, sports footwear such as now and water ski boots, bicycle saddles, boxing gloves and helmets . It is a popular material for slippers and sandals because doesn't hold odour and the softness allows it to perfectly forms to fit the foot providing support and cushioning
