What Are the Key Characteristics of Using Betaflex?

Temperature: Short term operating Temperature up to 180°C

    Colour: black/dark grey

    Thicknesses available: 0.25mm to 1.6mm

    Density: 62.4 lb/cu.ft

Resistances: oil, petrol, fuel, water, antifreeze

What Are Betaflex Fibre Jointing Sheets?

Betaflex is an asbestos-free cellulose based paper made using fibres bound with an NBR binder, recogniseable by its dark grey/black colour. Betaflex sheets and components cut from them are used in fibre jointing applications such as sealing and for electrical insulation where can restrict the flow of electrical current.

Fibre jointing materials like Betaflex are constructed from fibre strands held together with a resin, creating a strong and compressible material, which can be supplied in pre-cut finished parts or taken in sheet form where they give the customer and end-user the flexibility to be able to cut their own strips, gaskets, washers, etc out as and when they are required.

Why Use Betaflex Fibre Jointing Sheets?

When designing seals or gaskets, choosing the right material choice when designing gaskets and seals has become crucial for many industries where they need to ensure harmful chemicals and emissions are kept contained as Health & Safety regulations are tightened.

Betaflex Fibre Jointing is a high quality material offering low compressibility and good elastic recovery, with sheets of material often being used in the production of sealing and gasketing components for use within industrial sectors where there is a risk of exposure to oils, petrols, diesel fuel, water, antifreezes etc which would usually cause reactions and damage to other materials causing them to break down, resulting in gasket failure.

Betaflex parts can often be found in the form of seals where there is high volume fluid flow, such as within industrial pump gaskets or automotive transmission seals.

The Benefits of Using Betaflex Fibre Jointing Sheet

    • Can be machined into a range of components
    • Low compressibility
    • Excellent electrical insulating properties
    • Resistance to oil, petrol, fuel, water, antifreezes, etc
    • Short term operating Temperature up to 180°C

Other Grades of Fibre Jointing Available:

When choosing ASG for your fibre jointing applications, you are sure to be offered a number of material options, thanks to our network of material manufacturers and suppliers - some of our other popular materials include:

Ceramic Fibre material is constructed using ceramic fibres and an organic binder, designed for extreme temperature applications reaching up to 1250℃. Ceramic fibre pads have excellent strength and flexibility, excellent insulating properties and thermal resistance.

Gasket Paper pads have a high resistance to petrol, oil and water, therefore often utilised within automotive applications (within fuel/oil pumps and filters). It is not recommended for industrial use due to its lack of resistance to chemicals and heat.

Graphite foil is available in a number of grades, and is an excellent sealing material suitable for high temperature and high pressure liquid, steam, gas and chemical transfers. Graphite foil pads can be used where there is exposure to oil, petrol and gas - even nuclear or power generation applications.

Millboard is made using a material composed of ceramic fibres, clay, insert fillers and binders. Although these padss can not be used with direct flame, they can handle temperatures of up to 1037℃.

Non-asbestos fibre - Non-asbestos fibre has been designed to not only replace the original ‘Asbestos’ material, but also to be a more superior product with countless desirable properties as the material is manufactured in various formulations, each giving a combination of properties suited for different applications. Non-asbestos fibre can be blended with nitrile, thus giving fuel and oil resistance properties, with EPDM to create a potable water safe product or with PTFE for chemical resistance, they can also be supplied with a graphite coating to give steam and non-stick resistance properties.

Presspahn is manufactured using kraft wood pulp, giving its distinctive ‘buff brown’ colour. Presspahn pads have excellent physical and mechanical properties, generally used as electrical insulation.

Vulcanised fibre material is laminated plastic composed of only cellulose, with great mechanical strength and conformability. Vulcanised fibre gaskets can work in temperatures up to 110 ℃ anything more will result in the material fibres burning or breaking down.

Advantages Of Using Betaflex Fibre Jointing Sheet

When using Betaflex fibre jointing sheets of material or components cut from them, users can benefit from a number of advantages.

Betaflex sheets can be used in applications where temperatures of up to 180°C are reached (short term) and are suitable for sealing within industrial sectors and applications where there is a risk of exposure to or to prevent the leakage of oils, petrols, diesel fuel, water, antifreezes, etc.

Betaflex fibre jointing components cut from sheets of material can also be used for electrical insulation applications where they restrict the flow of electrical current, ensuring the health & safety of users and people around the appliance.

Betaflex fibre jointing materials are manufactured in roll form which can be cut and supplied in sheets, giving customers the option and flexibility of not having to take full rolls of material, therefore saving them money and reducing waste.
