Nitrile Cork

Advanced Seals & Gaskets offer rolls in a vast range of materials, including  Nitrile cork. Nitrile bonded cork is manufactured in roll form in a range of standard thicknesses, which can then be cut down to other parts.

Our state of the art in-house conversion facilities gives us the ability to nitrile cork into usable parts such as gaskets, strips and pads, supplied with a choice of finishes as our laminating service not only allows us to laminate layers of cork together but also enables us to supply nitrile cork with a range of self-adhesives, foils and even layers of other material.

Nitrile cork rolls are often taken as they give the customer and end-users the flexibility to be able to cut their own parts out as and when they are required.  Products produced using nitrile cork can be used for sealing against dust, air and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration  They are also preferred in applications where there is exposure to chemicals, oil, fuels and hydrocarbons.

What are Nitrile Cork Rolls?

Nitrile cork is made from cork and nitrile rubber granules which are bonded together, creating a brown coloured material with black pigment resulting in a speckled appearance. The nitrile adds properties to the cork such as resistance to oil, fuel, hydrocarbons and water, with a durable and flexible physicality.

This material itself is manufactured in roll form, sometimes preferred by customers as they have the freedom to cut their own sheets and products in various sizes as and when they are required. Nitrile cork rolls can be supplied with a choice of finishes including foils, self-adhesives or laminated with other materials which add further properties.

    Why use Nitrile Cork Rolls?

Nitrile cork can be found utilized within many industries, usually where products such as gaskets, pads and strips have been cut from them. Nitrile bonded cork material has a range of properties including anti-vibration, weathering, water, oil and solvent resistance.

It is flexible and a relatively cheap material compared to some rubber and sponges, which is also good for use with fuel and will seal at temperatures up to 120°C. As we convert our nitrile cork rolls in house, we have the capabilities to cut products into the exact dimensions requested, finished with a choice of adhesives or foils and laminate them to any of the other materials in our catalogue, combining properties and creating a unique and robust product.

Our Nitrile bonded cork rolls are popular within the automotive, engineering, construction, industrial and manufacturing industries.

The Advantages of Using Nitrile Cork Rolls

Nitrile bonded cork is popular within various industries including automotive, construction, manufacturing to mention a few, thanks to its range of desirable properties. Nitrile bonded cork is used where the material is required to be resistant to the effect of the ozone, oils, fuels and heat or where it is to be used for surface protection, sealing, spacing and sound/vibration absorption within heavy machinery and mechanical components.

Nitrile bonded cork can also be found in sumps, valve covers, electrical transformers, electrical switch gears and to seal general covers and lids.   Nitrile cork rolls are also more desirable to many customers as it gives them and end-users the flexibility to be able to cut their products (sheets, strips, gaskets, pads or washers) as and when they are required as one-offs as opposed to having them manufactured in bulk quantities all at the same size.

    Benefits of Nitrile Cork

    • Sound Suppression
    • Thermal Properties
    • Bonded with Other Materials Based on Application
    • Fuel & oil resistant
    • Anti-Vibration
    • Natural Material

    Different Grades

Cork gaskets can be produced in various other grades, such as natural cork or bonded with other materials other than nitrile such as neoprene and synthetic rubber.

Neoprene bonded cork is suited to sealing at higher temperatures and resistant to weathering and oil.  Neoprene Bonded cork is suited to oil, engineering, electrical, anti-vibration and soundproofing applications.

There are many synthetic rubbers that can be bonded to the cork that enhance the properties of the cork, creating Synthetic Bonded cork. This allows the cork to be used in a wide array of water retaining applications or where resilience to certain acids is required.

Natural cork is relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber often used as air, dust or water seals and in thermal insulation, acoustic and anti-vibration applications.
