Ethafoam Strip
At Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we are proud to be one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and converters of Ethafoam strips and other polyethylene foam materials. Our Ethafoam polyethylene strips are trusted across a wide range of industries for their exceptional durability, cushioning, and sealing performance.
We source our materials from world-class manufacturers, ensuring consistent quality and choice for our customers. Whether you need Ethafoam strips for packaging, sealing, or insulation applications, we can supply the right material for your requirements.
Ethafoam is typically produced in block form, supplied in standard 2m x 1m or 1m x 1m sheets or as continuous rolls, made by bonding multiple blocks together. These formats allow us to convert Ethafoam into custom-cut strips up to 100 metres long, tailored precisely to your needs.
Each Ethafoam strip, gasket tape, or sealing strip is manufactured to order using our state-of-the-art machinery — including band saws, strippers, log cutters, and precision presses. For high-volume production, we also offer kiss-cutting options, improving turnaround time and efficiency for our customers.
Our in-house production process ensures complete quality control and cost efficiency. We also offer laminated finishes, including plain, self-adhesive, foil-coated, or composite options combined with other materials for specialised applications.

What are Ethafoam Strips?
Ethafoam strips are precision-cut lengths of closed-cell polyethylene foam, manufactured to the specific width and length required for your project. They can also be supplied as continuous rolls or coils, allowing flexible cutting and use on-site.
Ethafoam is a resilient and flexible closed-cell foam, visually similar to polystyrene but much more durable and versatile. It is made by expanding polyethene up to 30 times its volume, forming a fine, closed-cell structure with a textured skin on both sides and open edges where it is cut.
These properties make Ethafoam strips ideal for sealing, cushioning, and insulation applications. The material is available in various grades and densities — including 24kg/m³ and 64kg/m³ for general packaging, and 102kg/m³ and 145kg/m³ for high load-bearing applications.
Specialist grades such as flame-retardant and anti-static Ethafoam (identifiable by its pink colour) are also available, making this foam suitable for sensitive environments like electronics, transport, and aerospace.
Why use Ethafoam Strips?
Ethafoam strips are a reliable and versatile solution for sealing, packaging, and protecting a wide range of products. They can be placed between two surfaces to create airtight seals, absorb shock and vibration, or provide insulation against heat and cold.
This material is particularly valued in packaging and transport applications, where it protects fragile, delicate, or high-value items from impact, vibration, and moisture. Its resistance to chemicals, mildew, and fungi makes it suitable for long-term use, even in demanding environments.
Because Ethafoam is available in multiple grades and densities, it can safely support items of various weights. However, due to its coarse surface texture, direct contact with polished or delicate finishes is not recommended unless paired with a protective film or liner.
Benefits of using Polyethylene Ethafoam Strips
- Excellent shock, impact, and vibration absorption
- Moisture-resistant and non-absorbent
- Impervious to chemicals, mould, and bacteria
- Easy to cut, shape, and fabricate
- Available in a wide range of densities and grades
- Lightweight and durable
These qualities make Ethafoam polyethylene strips one of the most popular materials for protective packaging, gasket sealing, and insulation across multiple industries.
Alternative Packaging Foams
At Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we offer a complete range of alternative packaging and sealing foams, including:
- Convoluted or “eggbox” polyurethane foam
- Pick & pluck polyurethane foam.
- Anti-static polyethylene foam
- Anti-static polyurethane foam
- Conductive polyethylene foam
- Plastazote foams
- Static dissipative polyethylene foam
Each option is selected based on your application’s specific cushioning, conductivity, or insulation requirements.
Advantages of using Ethafoam Strips
Ethafoam polyethylene is supplied as planks or sheets but can be easily converted into custom-cut strips or self-adhesive rolls. Its lightweight yet strong structure provides excellent resistance to moisture, mildew, and bacterial growth, while maintaining reliable performance in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
The foam’s natural resilience allows repeated compression and impact resistance, while offering effective thermal insulation within a temperature range of −30°C to +80°C. It also provides chemical resistance, making it suitable for industrial use.
Key advantages include:
- Exceptional durability and toughness
- Choice of white or grey finishes
- Wide density range (24 kg/m³ to 145 kg/m³)
- Available in flame-retardant and anti-static grades
- Can be laminated for extra depth or cushioning
- Effective shock and vibration absorption
Due to its versatility, Ethafoam strips are used in numerous applications — from packaging electrical appliances and white goods to supporting heavy-duty industrial equipment, cables, and machinery.
