Acoustic Barrier Foam Pads
Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we supply premium Acoustic Barrier Foam Pads in a range of sponge and solid polyurethane variants, including Class ‘O’ Acoustic Polyurethane Foam with Barrier Pads. By designing and manufacturing in-house, we can work closely with customers to produce pads that match drawings, specifications, or samples, all while maintaining fast lead times without relying on third-party suppliers.
Our in-house presses, bandsaws, and CNC machines allow us to manufacture products from one-off samples to multi-thousand batch runs, depending on size. Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads can be supplied as loosely cut parts or kiss-cut on a roll for high-volume production, ideal for fast-paced assembly lines.
With complete control over production, we can offer thicknesses up to 100mm and a variety of composite combinations, using layers of acoustic foam and mass-loaded vinyl barriers. Pads can be supplied plain, self-adhesive backed, or with a foil backing to meet installation requirements.
What are Class ‘O’ Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads?
Class ‘O’ Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads are made from open-cell, lightweight, flame-retardant acoustic foam that is non-dusting, resistant to mildew and fungi, and provides excellent thermal insulation and noise absorption.
By incorporating a mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) barrier, these composite pads reduce noise transmission while remaining fire-resistant. Typically, the MLV layer is sandwiched between two layers of acoustic foam, though additional layers can be added for higher soundproofing levels.
MLV sheets come in three standard weights and thicknesses:
- 5kg – 2.5–3mm thick
- 7.5kg – 3–4mm thick
- 10kg – 4–5mm thick
The heavier the barrier, the greater the soundproofing capability. The MLV material combines calcium silicate or barium sulfate for sound deadening with flexible vinyl for easy installation.
Using our in-house machinery, ASG can produce pads in squares, rectangles, circles, ovals, or discs with optional radius corners. Pads can also be laminated with multiple layers or supplied with self-adhesive backing for quick installation.

Why use Class ‘O’ Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads?
Class ‘O’ Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads (MLV) are designed for applications requiring high-performance soundproofing. The composite combines a noise barrier and acoustic absorber, providing sound transmission loss and vibration dampening, even when cut into smaller pads.
Being Class O flame-retardant, these pads are safe for use in HVAC, construction, and automotive applications. They are commonly used to fill gaps between fixtures and to provide thermal insulation, noise reduction, vibration damping, and cushioning in buildings, vehicles, engines, machinery, and enclosures.
The addition of the MLV barrier enhances soundproofing, allowing the pads to block, absorb, and reduce noise from moving parts or machinery. The flexible barrier also makes installation around corners, pipes, and complex housings much easier than rigid soundproofing boards.
The Advantages of Using Class ‘O Acoustic Polyurethane with Barrier Pads
- Effective for floor, wall, or ceiling soundproofing
- Reduces vibration and unwanted noise
- Flame-retardant and safe for multiple industries
- Can be supplied as cut barrier material alone or laminated with acoustic foam
- Pads can be cut into smaller parts for ease of use.
- Available in various thicknesses, weights, and layer combinations
- Resistant to mildew and fungal growth
Different Types Available
The soundproofing barrier material can be supplied as:
- Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) sheet alone
- Laminated to Class O acoustic foam to create composite sheets
MLV barrier weights and approximate thicknesses:
- 5kg – 2.5–3mm thick (acoustic performance ~26 dB)
- 7.5kg – 3–4mm thick
- 10kg – 4–5mm thick (acoustic performance ~32 dB)
Finishes: Pads can be supplied plain, with self-adhesive backing for easy installation, or with foil facing (optional scrim-lined) to further enhance insulation and acoustic properties.
