Static Dissipative Foam Strip

Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips

At Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we are proud to be one of the UK’s leading converters and manufacturers of polyethylene foam strips, including high-performance Static Dissipative Foam Strips. Every day, we manufacture thousands of foam components in a range of grades, densities, and colours to meet our customers’ diverse requirements.

Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam (often referred to as Anti-Static Polyethylene) is a durable, closed-cell material specifically designed to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD). This makes it an ideal choice for use in electronics, electrical packaging, and precision engineering applications where component protection is vital.

Our static dissipative PE foam is black in colour and produced in sheet and roll form, with thicknesses up to approximately 100mm. This format allows for efficient strip conversion, ensuring short lead times and flexible order quantities. Using our state-of-the-art machinery — including band saws, strippers, log cutters, and presses — we manufacture custom foam strips that follow customer-supplied drawings or dimensions with complete accuracy.

Because all production is completed in-house, we maintain full quality control, ensuring consistently high standards and competitive pricing for every order.

Our Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips are cut from pre-manufactured rolls or split sheets, starting at 1.5mm thickness. They can be supplied plain, self-adhesive backed, or laminated to other materials, and can be produced in widths from 4mm upwards, with coil lengths of up to 10 metres.

What Are Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips?

Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips are precision-cut lengths of closed-cell foam designed to dissipate static electricity safely. Typically supplied as coils around 10 metres long, they can also be produced in shorter or longer custom lengths to suit each project.

These ESD foam strips can be manufactured from both pre-rolled material and split foam sheets, depending on the quantity and application. For longer strips, blocks or sheets can be bonded together, split to thickness, and then converted into finished strips.

Static Dissipative Foam Strips are commonly used as gasket strips, sealing strips, or isolation strips, forming secure seals between uneven surfaces while preventing static build-up.

The foam itself is a black, closed-cell polyethylene made by blending raw PE granules with conductive carbon, fillers, and blowing agents, producing a fine cellular structure during the foaming process. This creates a permanent static dissipative function that safely channels static energy away from sensitive components.

Why Use Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips?

Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips are essential for protecting sensitive electronic components during storage, handling, and transportation. Items such as PCBs, microchips, and circuit assemblies are highly susceptible to ESD damage, which can render them inoperable.

Electrostatic discharge occurs when two charged surfaces make contact, releasing a sudden surge of electricity that can damage internal circuitry. The safest way to control this risk is by using static dissipative foam packaging that slowly conducts electrical charges to the ground in a controlled and gradual way — preventing sparks, shorts, or dielectric breakdown.

By incorporating static dissipative foam strips into packaging, cases, or devices, manufacturers and engineers can minimise damage, reduce costs, and maintain product reliability throughout their supply chain.

Advantages Of Using Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam Strips

Static Dissipative PE Foam Strips provide a combination of safety, strength, and reliability. They help maintain an ESD-safe environment while protecting equipment and components from physical and electrical damage.

    Key properties include:

    • Excellent tensile and tear resistance

    • Superior shock and vibration absorption

    • Chemical resistance to solvents, acids, oils, and grease

    • Closed-cell structure that prevents moisture and bacterial growth

    • Non-corrosive and safe for use around delicate electronics

    • Temperature resistance up to 90°C

    • Available in multiple thicknesses — from as little as 1.5mm, custom-cut in widths starting from 4mm

These foam strips are widely used to line cases, secure delicate instruments, and seal electronic housings, preventing damage from static charge and impact. The result is fewer damaged products, lower replacement costs, and greater long-term protection for valuable equipment.

Typical applications include LCD screens, mobile phone components, laptops, optical electronics, and circuit assemblies on production lines where static control is critical.

Benefits Of Using Static Dissipative Polyethylene Foam

    • Lightweight, reducing transportation and handling costs

    • Soft and impact-absorbing for superior cushioning

    • Controlled dissipation of static electrical discharge

    • Minimises component damage and replacement costs

    • Closed-cell structure protects goods from moisture and contamination.

    • Available in roll, sheet, or custom-cut strip formats for maximum flexibility

These benefits make Static Dissipative Foam Strips an ideal material for ESD-safe packaging, component housing, and equipment protection across industries such as electronics, automotive, aerospace, and precision manufacturing.
