ASG offers a wide range of non-metallic materials from a number of manufacturers and suppliers, one of which includes different types of felt and textiles, a varied choice of material types each with their unique properties to meet particular application demands. Each type of felt and textile material is manufactured in various roll sizes and thicknesses as standard, however as we carry out all our conversion on-site,  we can cut these down to smaller-sized rolls or sheets or even into a range of gaskets, pads and or washers, many of which can be supplied either plain or laminated with one of our many self-adhesives or foils.

 

What are Felt & Textile Materials?

Our felt and textile range of materials are generally produced using felt material made from either wool, polyester or a combination of both or grades of nylons and non-woven scrim, these materials offer to cushion properties, resilient under pressure, creates an excellent dust seal and adds additional strength to other materials it is adhered to. These materials can either be taken as pre-cut finished parts or taken in roll form as they give the customer and end-user the flexibility to be able to cut their own parts such as strips, gaskets, washers, etc as and when they are required.

 

Why Use Felt & Textile materials?

Products cut from felt and textile materials are often used to fill gaps and irregularities between two surfaces and to provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against dust and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment. Felt has had a fibrous structure that can be used to absorb and transmit fluids, they have excellent recovery and high energy absorption and a working temperature range of -40℃ to +100℃.      Felt materials and products can be typically found used as oil seals or filters in engines. Fabrics, felts, and non-woven scrims can be utilised in a variety of industries and applications, including aerospace, apparel or clothing, construction, automotive, chemical processing, electrical,  filtration, marine, and medical.

 

Different Types of Felt & Textile available

Woolen felt is produced using a combination of heat, moisture and compression, causing the wool to fuse without the need for any binders or binding agents to be used.  Woolen felts are available in a range of hardnesses, a flame retardant grade and usually in black, white or grey colour options. 

Synthetic felts are produced using man-made fibres, constructed by ‘needling’ or using chemical binders and heat.  These felt do not perform as well compared to woollen felts when it comes to compressibility, elasticity, absorption and abrasion.

Nylon – Nylon is the name of a family of synthetic polymers commonly used to make a variety of different types of workwear, clothing and components within the industrial and sports industries.

Non-woven scrim – most nonwoven scrims use one of or a combination of strands of polyester, glass or polypropylene. Nonwoven scrim is used to add strength and stability to other films, paper and textile materials.
