PVC Foam Firm Grade

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd work with a multitude of reputable material manufacturers and suppliers, enabling us to offer a range of materials in many grades, densities and colours. One of the more popular materials includes various grades of PVC Foam, one of which includes Firm Grade PVC Foam.   Firm Grade PVC is a closed-cell, low-density foam that has a number of excellent mechanical properties, used widely for sealing and insulation.

Firm Grade PVC Foam is manufactured and stocked in roll form with a choice of thicknesses between 2mm and 8mm, roll widths of 1 meter or 1.4 meters and rolls lengths of up to 100 meters long depending on the thickness, which can be used to cut down into finished products.

As we offer in-house conversion and lamination services, we can not only split PVC materials down to non-standard thicknesses, we can also laminate layers together and apply a choice of self-adhesives or foil facings.  Our onsite facilities consist of a number of presses, log cutters, strippers, bandsaws and CNC machines from which we can produce a number of PVC Foam products including gaskets, washers, strips, pads and fabrications.

What is Firm Grade PVC Foam?

PVC Foam is also known as polyvinyl chloride, made up of PVC and Polyurea compounds which are combined, heated until it expands and then cured, creating a closed-cell, low-density foam, designed to seal against air, dust and liquids. Firm Grade PVC Foam as the name suggests is a firmer, harder feeling foam, which can be used to withstand more rigorous and heavier applications where too much compression would reduce the cushioning effect.

Why use Firm Grade PVC Foam?

Firm Grade PVC Foam offers all the mechanical properties of other PVC Foam which include UV resistance, low-level water absorption, dimensional stability and is used to construct seals against air, dust and liquids, but also offers a higher density, making it a more robust grade for use following higher levels of compression.

PVC Foams are lightweight, flame-retardant and durable,  with the additional firmness making them perfect for use as moisture seals and within filtration systems where irregular shaped parts need to be cut or between surfaces where there is a high level of compression or pressure.

Advantages of using Firm Grade PVC Foam

Using Firm Grade PVC Foam offers countless advantages over other foams including good acoustic, flammability properties and resistance to ozone, UV,  rot and mould growth and solvents making them popular for use in sealing, insulation, cushioning and filtration applications such as rooflight seals, glazing pads, refrigeration seals, face make strips, or transportation pads.

The firmness of the material allows it to be used to create a tight-fitting and secure seal between two heavy surfaces, allowing the material to be used without too much pressure to be applied and causing damage to the foam.

Firm Grade PVC is available in a range of pre-manufactured thicknesses, ready to be shipped or cut down in usable finished products such as gaskets, washers, strips or pads where they are utilised in the automotive, construction, electronics, HVAC and stationery industries.

Benefits of using Firm Grade PVC Foam

    • Extra lightweight
    • Recovers slowly the following compression
    • Can be laminated or split to non-standard thicknesses
    • Good thermal insulation
    • Flame retardant
    • Can be easily cut into a range of products
    • Excellent dust and moisture seal
