ABS Plastic Sheet

Plastic sheets are just one of many products available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets, available in numerous grades, colours, thicknesses, finishes and sheet sizes, one of which includes ABS plastic or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene.

ABS plastic sheets can be manufactured and supplied in sheets up to 2500mm x 1250mm in size and thicknesses between 1mm and 6mm. Various other standard sheet sizes are also available however we can cut these down further to offer customers bespoke sizes where required.

Using one of our many on-site saws, presses or CNC machines, we are able to convert ABS plastic sheets into cut pads, washers or strips, all of which can be supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils.

    What Are ABS Plastic Sheet?

ABS plastic is made up of three monomers acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, which make up this particular thermoplastic sheet. A thermoplastic polymer is a material which can be melted over and over again, where it is cooled down back to a solid state in it’s new shape or form. These three monomers create a tough and durable sheet material, which can be produced in different variations by adjusting the amounts each compound added or with the addition of additives such as FDA, Flame Retardant, Scratch resistance and very High Impact resistance grades.

    Why Use ABS Plastic Sheet?

Plastic sheets are manufactured to be able to offer different properties for use in different environments. ABS plastic sheets demonstrate strength, chemical, thermal stability and resistance to impact and chemical corrosion.

ABS plastic sheets can be cut and converted into a range of intricate shapes and products using various techniques including laser cutting, die cutting, sawing and even thermoforming (where the material is heated until it is soft, re-shaped and then left to cool and harden) Many industrial or household items designed for outdoor use which need to be tough, durable and impact resistant such as bins, storage boxes, garden tool casings and covers, etc are made using ABS as it is extremely weather resistant, however will deteriorate over time if exposed to UV.

Other Types of ABS Plastic Sheet

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a multitude of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of plastic sheeting - our most popular materials being:

    • PTFE
    • Polycarbonate
    • Polypropylene
    • HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)
    • PVC
    • Polyester
    • Acetal
    • Acrylic
    • Nylatron

    Advantages Of ABS Plastic Sheet

Using ABS plastic sheet materials and products converted from them offer a whole host of benefits, not only are they cheaper and lighter in weight in comparison to metal and some sponge options, but also offer more resistance to wear and corrosion (will not rust unlike metal gaskets).

Despite being a fairly rigid material, ABS plastic can still be compressed to create a tight seal and as well as being great for insulation applications as it does not conduct heat or electricity. Other advantages of using ABS plastic include the cost of production and purchasing of the material itself, its strong, impact and shock resistant and sturdy, a material which can not only be melted and re-formed several times, but is also easy to recycle.

ABS plastic sheets are made more versatile as they can be manufactured in a range of colours and finishes and also cut, pressed or moulded into bespoke shapes and profiles. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene can be found in a wide range of commercial and domestic applications and often used in the production of helmets, face guards, wall sockets, car interiors, tubing, kitchen utensils, musical instruments, toys, suitcases, electrical appliances, signs, model and prototyping, to name a few.

Benefits Of Using ABS Plastic Sheet

    • Weather resistant
    • Impact resistant
    • Can be melted and re-formed
    • Strong and rigid
    • Can be easily machined, glued and painted
    • Low heat and electricity conductivity for use with electrical insulation
