Butyl Rubber Pads

Butyl Rubber Pads

Butyl Rubber Pads

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets we convert and supply a variety of pads, cut from butyl rubber. Solid butyl rubber is manufactured and stocked as rolls in thicknesses starting from 1mm, and at 1.4 meters wide x 10 meters long, from which pads can be cut.

Our butyl rubber pads are produced on-site by following drawings, samples or measurements provided by our customers using one of many state of the art machines including presses, bandsaws or CNC oscillating knives which can be used to manufacture the final product.

From one off samples to multiple batch runs, which depending on size can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast paced assembly lines.

    What Are Butyl Pads?

Solid Butyl rubber is a synthetic rubber formulated using a blend of isobutylene with isoprene, this creates a property known as Polyisobutylene, commonly known as PIB, and a material with many resistances and an impermeable structure required for air retention or gas sealing applications.

Using a combination of in-house machinery ASG can produce square or rectangular butyl pads with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’, in a range of thicknesses. Manufacturing pads in-house means we can offer the option to supply them in a plain or self adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations known as composite materials.

    Why Use Butyl Rubber Pads?

Pads cut from Butyl rubber are often found used in many applications where there is exposure to water or gas. Butyl rubber is a highly durable and stable material with exceptional resistance to UV, weathering and ozone which make it excellent for both internal and external use.

The material is flexible, has a good resistance to flex cracking, abrasion, impact and tear, combined with a low gas and vapor permeability, butyl rubber which makes butyl gaskets perfect for use in gas and air sealing applications.

However they aren't suitable to use with oils and petrol. Pads are often used as a type of seal, where they can create air/liquid tight seals between surfaces, but surprisingly serve a number of purposes which include load distribution underneath machinery or equipment, to reduce the stress on the materials into which fasteners are driven and therefore reducing damage.

Butyl rubber pads and those made into composite materials can be used to absorb vibration especially when used to connect objects with hard surfaces and a lot of movement or repetitive impact.

    Benefits Of Butyl Rubber Pads

    • UV & Ozone resistant
    • Impermeability to gases, compressed air and moisture
    • Wide operating temperature range (-40°C - +140°C)
    • Excellent sealing properties
    • Anti-vibration properties
    • Flexible with resistance to flex cracking

The Advantages of Using Butyl Rubber Pads

There are many advantages to using butyl rubber pads in your projects as the material offers many excellent properties, characteristics and uses. It’s a flexible material even at low temperatures, demonstrating a wide operating temperature of -40°C to +140°C, and is pre-manufactured in a range of thicknesses ready for converting into pads and other sealing products.

Solid Butyl pads resist degradation caused by UV, weathering , heat, moisture and some acids and alkaline chemicals. It’s structure is impermeable to gas and compressed air, making it an excellent choice for air retention, therefore perfect for creating gas and air seals. As we manufacture butyl pads on-site, we can offer them in bespoke sizes and in any quantity.
