Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are predominantly recognised for their wide range of sponge, foam and rubber products, however we also pride ourselves in being able to also offer a number of specialist fibre, resin, plastic and paper based materials and products designed for specific applications such as electrical insulation, including kapton electrical insulation.

One of our electrical insulation materials is Kapton, a polyimide film excellent for use in electrical insulation applications with outstanding thermal, mechanical, chemical and electrical properties. Kapton film is manufactured in roll form and in thicknesses from 23 to 125 micron.

These rolls can be laminated with an adhesive coating prior to being converted into finished products using methods such as die-cutting or thermoforming, alternatively they can be cut using a slitter or log cutter, producing coils or strips of film or tape.

    What Is Kapton Electrical Insulation?

    Kapton electrical insulation is a polyamide film, which also goes by its chemical name ‘poly 4,4'-oxydiphenylene-pyromellitimide’ - this film is produced using (PMDA) pyromellitic dianhydride and 4,4’ oxydiphenylamine (ODA).

    This formulation produces the Amber coloured film used in many extreme temperature electrical insulation applications on items such as circuit boards, transformers, motors and fiber optics.

    As well as having excellent electrical insulation properties, Kapton also demonstrates temperature stability, flame and chemical resistance and mechanical strength. This high quality material with its unique property combination makes for the perfect material to use within aircraft and aerospace applications. Kapton film is manufactured in various grades and thicknesses between 23 to 125 micron and can be supplied in full rolls, sheets or pre-cut finished usable components.

    Epoxy Glass - a green coloured material with good mechanical strength, good chemical, electrical and radiation resistance, low moisture absorption and a working temperature range of upto +120℃.

    Valox - Valox electrical insulation offers dielectric strength, electrical properties, an operating temperature range of -40°C to 130°C and resistance to a wide variety of chemicals including hydrocarbons, dilute acids and bases, detergents and aqueous salt solutions. Valox materials like other plastics offer high-strength and impact resistance, good flexibility, and a resistance to shrinkage.

    Leatheroid - is a grey/blue coloured paper gasket material, also sometimes called Elephantide. This material is used within the electrical industry to insulate hot elements.

    MICA - is a mineral based sheeting material which has excellent mechanical performances, is resistant to chemicals and provides electrical and therm insulation. MICA gaskets are often used to replace asbestos as they can withstand extremely high temperatures of up to 1000℃.

    MYLAR is an extremely strong, flexible polyester film. MYLAR is an excellent insulation material with dielectric strength, moisture resistance and is an excellent insulation material.

    Nomex can be manufactured using nomex paper or nomex board, it can withstand high temperatures, has high mechanical and dielectric strength, and is an excellent insulation material for all kinds of electrical equipment and applications.

    Presspahn is a brown coloured material, manufactured using kraft wood pulp. Presspahn sheets have excellent physical and mechanical properties, generally used as electrical insulation.

    SRBF is resin bonded fibre material which is tough and rigid, with an operating temperature of 120℃, low water absorption and is resistant to wear, impact chemicals.

    SRBP (synthetic resin bonded paper) is manufactured using layers of paper and synthetic resins. This material is suited to high and medium voltage application. SRBP has good mechanical and excellent electrical insulation properties, with low water absorption.

    PTFE is a non- conductive plastic material used to produce electrical insulation sheets. PTFE sheets are suitable for high temperature applications and have a high melting temperature. This material has excellent dielectric properties and can be often found used in circuit boards.

    PVC is a tough, lightweight abrasion, chemical and moisture resistant material which has good dielectric strength making it a great material to use for electrical insulation applications.

    Kapton electrical insulation films are often found utilised within aircraft, aerospace, rail and automotive applications, where properties such as mechanical strength (resistance to abrasion, tear and puncture), high dielectric strength, chemical resistance and fire resistance are crucial.

    Kapton polyamide films are highly durable, capable of maintaining it’s mechanical properties and withstanding vibration and extreme temperature ranging from -269°C through to +400°C. Katon Films are manufactured in a number of grades with varying levels of resistance, each of which can further be converted using our state of the art on site facilities where we can produce finished products including pads, gaskets, sheets, strips, tapes and washers in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish.
