Neoprene Sponge Seals

Advanced Seals & Gaskets offer many products as a solution to your sealing requirements, including those made using neoprene sponge. Neoprene sponge seals are available in the form of gaskets, washers, O-rings, extrusions, and cord all designed to prevent air, fluid or gas leaks.

All our neoprene sponge seals are made to order in almost any given size, shape, format or thickness, therefore we are able to produce components to our customer's precise requirements and are based on dimensions, samples or drawings provided by customers to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application. As each form of the seal is manufactured using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery meaning we can produce both high and low volume neoprene sponge seals.

Neoprene sponge seals are a preferred choice in applications where there is exposure to water, chemicals and oil such as construction, aerospace, automotive and agriculture.

What is a Neoprene Sponge Seal?

Neoprene Sponge Seals are a device or substrate that is used to join surfaces together to either act as a separator or a body to prevent liquids, solids or gases from escaping or penetrating the seal.  Neoprene sponge seals can take the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers, extruded profiles and cord, all manufactured using the same closed cell sponge which can be compressed, which in turn ‘hardens’ the material to create a secure seal.  Many of our neoprene sponge seals can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives which assists with holding the seal in situ.

    Seals

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we offer seals in an array of materials such as EPDM, Silicone, Solid rubber, Cork, Plastics, Polyethylene, Polyurethane and PVC foam to name just a few.  Seals are designed to prevent leakages once compressed between irregular surfaces, having the incorrect shape, size or material would cause the gasket to fail, all of our seals are manufactured using specialised machinery,  as we understand the final cut and finish of the seal needs to be perfect.

    Why use Neoprene Sponge Seals?

There are many different forms of neoprene sponge seals, but all possess the same desirable properties making it a popular choice across many industries.  Its closed-cell structure creates an air, dust and watertight seal, it has excellent ageing properties, being resilient to ozone, sunlight, oxidation and UV exposure and not becoming brittle over time.

Neoprene sponge seals are resistant to oil, chemically inert, flame retardant and have a wide working temperature range of -40°C to +115°C.  Neoprene sponge seals can be found used within many outdoor, building & construction, glazing, electronic, defence, aerospace and automotive applications.

Benefits of Using Neoprene Sponge Seals

    • Oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

Advantages of Using Neoprene Sponge Seals

There are many advantages to using a neoprene sponge for your sealing needs. The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range, it can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications, it’s easy to cut and extrude into complex-shaped seal profiles and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.  Under minimal compression, neoprene sponge provides excellent dust, air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil.

Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene sponge seals are suitable for use within many automotive, glazing, electronic, lighting, ventilation, marine and building/construction applications.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work closely with a number of high-quality material manufacturers, giving our customers a choice of grades when designing a solution to their sealing applications.  Neoprene sponge gaskets can be produced in medium density, firm, flame retardant and EPDM/Neoprene blended grades.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge seals are fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and have a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications, where less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

Flame Retardant Neoprene seals are grey in colour, can handle continuous temperatures from -40°C to 115°C and subject to more vigorous fire testing ( FMVSS 302, UL94, AFNOR P9750), this makes the material ideal for use within construction and transport applications where a flame-resistant barrier may be required.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.    Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with many material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when designing their neoprene rubber seal.  Neoprene rubber seals can be supplied in a number of grades and hardness’s, some of the main ones being:

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge or type of seal you require for your application, samples of our materials are readily available for your perusal.
