Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane pads can be manufactured here at Advanced Seals using stocks of both solid and sponge polyurethane materials.  Polyurethane materials are just one group used in our pad production with Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane being available as a solid rubber or as a very high density sponge also known by the trade name  “Dynathane”.

Solid Abrasive resistant PU raw materials are manufactured in roll form in a range of thicknesses, whereas the Abrasion resistance PU Sponge is manufactured in sheet and block form measuring approximately 250mm x 500mm x 65mm thick and 250mm x 1000mm x 65mm thick from which pads can be cut.

Regardless of the size and quantity of Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads required, we have a number of presses, bandsaws or CNC machines which can be used to manufacture the final product.  From one-off samples to multiple 1000 batch runs, which depending on the pad size can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast-paced assembly lines.

Characteristics of Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads

Using abrasion-resistant materials offers a host of properties, characteristics however these will vary between material types and grades, some of the features and benefits include:

    • Colours: black, white, red, tan , off-white
    • Resistances: varying levels of abrasive resistance, oil, UV, Ozone, heat
    • Hardnesses: various levels of hardness depending on material type
    • Temperature: wide operating temperatures with certain types suited to extreme highs & lows

What are Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads?

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads are converted using a selection of in-house machinery, these include saws, presses and CNC machines, allowing ASG to produce bespoke square or rectangular pads with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’,  in a range of thicknesses.

Abrasion is the term referring to the ‘wear’ caused on material when it comes into physical contact with another object or surface.  Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane P ads are high-quality products used in physically demanding applications and environments, offering extremely high resilience to wear and tear and used to provide a solution to mechanical impact damage, scraping, grinding and corrosion.  Solid Polyurethane rubber materials are available in Tan, Red, White (FDA) and Black (Snow Plough) varieties, each suited to different applications.

Polyurethane sponge gasketing material or Dynathane is a microcellular, hard-wearing sponge which feels almost like a solid rubber.  It is lightweight, flexible and offers a high impact strength with excellent resistance to abrasion and tearing recognisable by its off-white colour.

Why use Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads?

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads are used in applications where the material needs to be able to resist the effects of erosion,  rubbing or scraping which would cause friction and therefore damage the material or the surface underneath.  When selecting a material for pads which will be exposed to repetitive mechanical wear and tear or impact, an Abrasive Resistant PU material could be the answer.

Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads will resist wear and erosion caused by mechanical wear, allowing the material to retain its original form for longer, therefore, reducing the risk of component or product failure and saving on the cost of having to replace the material more often.

Each grade of the rubber and sponge for Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads has its own set of properties, characteristics, temperature ranges and chemical resistances. Our specialist sales team will be able to discuss your application and advise on the best-suited material for the application.

    Different Grades

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Pads materials including:

    • Abrasion Resistant PU Sponge (Dynathane) hard wearing lightweight sponge.   Dynathane gaskets are flexible, have a high impact strength with superb resistance to abrasion and tearing, offering an operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C, manufactured in densities of 450kg/m3 up to 650 Kg/m³, recognised the materials off-white almost tan colouration.  Pads made using Dynathane can be found used in applications such as tank linings, anti-vibration mounts, gaskets, buffers and for noise reduction.
    • Red abrasive resistant polyurethane pads. This is a tough grade of gasketing material manufactured from a high quality natural rubber (NR) specifically designed to provide resistance to abrasion and tear.  It is commonly found used in sacrificial quarry linings and slurry handling plants, fabricated parts and seals, tank and silo linings.
    • White abrasion resistant rubber is also manufactured using natural rubber, but a softer compound, which still produces pads with excellent resistance to abrasion and tear.  This material is often utilized as pads for use within food processing and packaging equipment or machinery.  This material offers good resistance to ketones, organic acids, alcohols and aldehydes, however isn't recommended for use with animal fats, petroleum, vegetable oils and most hydrocarbons.
    • Shotblast (tan para) rubber is a tan coloured, extremely robust and durable rubber, which has excellent resistance to abrasion, also manufactured from natural rubber, these pads offer excellent sealing properties, moderate resistance to some aldehydes, some diluted acids and weak chemicals, but not recommended for contact with solvents, petroleum and concentrated acids.

Advantages to Using Abrasion Resistant Polyurethane Materials

    • Can be used in physically demanding applications and environments.
    • Offers extremely high resilience to wear and tear.
    • Provides surface protection and a solution to mechanical impact damage, scraping, grinding and corrosion.
    • Cost savings as longer lasting material, therefore reduced risk of component or product failure.
    • Can offer a range of other characteristics and properties including ozone, weathering, UV, oil and chemical resistances (these will vary between material grades).
    • Can be used as sheets or cut into gaskets to use within machinery and equipment.
