Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are available in foam and solid versions with Abrasive Resistant PU being available as a solid rubber or as a very high density sponge also known by the trade name “Dynathane”. Solid Abrasive resistant PU is manufactured in continuous rolls in various thicknesses, whereas the Abrasion resistance PU Sponge is manufactured in sheet and block form measuring approximately 250mm x 500mm x 65mm thick and 250mm x 1000mm x 65mm thick from which washers can be cut.
Using these high quality materials and state of the art machinery, our in-house conversion facilities produce Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are all made to order and produced by using ID and OD dimensions supplied by the customer or from samples and drawings used as a template to ensure the final product perfectly fits the application - even offering a small sample run if required.
Depending on the size and quantity of washer required, our production team will select from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head press, kiss cut press machines or for very large or thick washers, we can programme our CNC (oscillating knife) to produce the washers in the most efficient way to keep costs competitive and lead times down.

Characteristics of Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane
Using abrasion resistant materials offers a host of properties, characteristics however these will vary between material types and grades, some of the features and benefits include:

What are Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers?
Abrasive Resistant PU solid rubber is manufactured in continuous rolls, where as the Abrasion resistance PU Sponge is manufactured in sheet and block form measuring approximately 250mm x 500mm x 65mm thick and 250mm x 1000mm x 65mm thick from which washers can be cut.
Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are a flat ring (comprising of an Outer Diameter (OD), Inner Diameter (ID) and the thickness) cut from a sheet or roll of material, which is placed between two surfaces creating a level surface, acting as a spacer, seal or between a nut/bolt to spread the pressure when tightened. Using one of our many presses or CNC machines we can produce bespoke Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers in virtually any size and quantity.
Why use Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers?
Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are used in applications where the material needs to be able to resist the effects of erosion, rubbing or scraping which would cause friction and therefore damaging the material. Abrasion is the term referring to the ‘wear’ caused on material when it comes into physical contact with another object or surface. Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are high quality products used in physically demanding applications and environments, offering extremely high resilience to wear and tear and used to provide a solution to mechanical impact damage, scraping, grinding and corrosion.
Abrasion is more likely to occur where movement or motion creates friction induced wear and tear, here is when an Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers can be used to provide the best form of surface protection. Solid Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are available in Tan, Red, White (FDA) and black (Snow Plough) varieties, each suited to different applications.
Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers are hard wearing which feel almost like a solid rubber. These washers are lightweight, flexible and offer a high impact strength with excellent resistance to abrasion and tearing recognisable by its off white colour.
When selecting a material for gaskets which will be exposed to repetitive mechanical wear and tear or impact, an Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers could be the answer. Polyurethane gaskets with abrasion resistance properties, will resist wear and erosion caused by mechanical wear, allowing the material to retain its original form for longer therefore reducing the risk of component or product failure and saves on the cost of having to replace the material more often.

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice of their Abrasive Resistant Polyurethane Washers material, including:
- Abrasion Resistant PU Sponge (Dynathane) hard wearing lightweight sponge. Dynathane washers are flexible, have a high impact strength with superb resistance to abrasion and tearing, offering an operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C, manufactured in densities of 450 up to 650 Kg/m³, recognised the materials off-white almost tan colouration. Washers made using Dynathane can be found used in applications such as tank linings, anti-vibration mounts, gaskets, buffers and for noise reduction.
- Red abrasion resistant rubber is a tough grade sealing and gasketing material manufactured from a high quality natural rubber (NR) specifically designed to provide resistance to abrasion and tear. These washers can commonly be found used within sacrificial quarry linings and slurry handling plants, tank and silo linings.
- White abrasion resistant rubber is also manufactured using natural rubber, but a softer compound, which still produces washers with excellent resistance to abrasion and tear. This material is often utilized as washers and seals within food processing and packaging equipment or machinery. This material offers good resistance to ketones, organic acids, alcohols and aldehydes, however isn't recommended for use with animal fats, petroleum, vegetable oils and most hydrocarbons.
- Shotblast (tan para) rubber is a tan coloured, extremely robust and durable rubber, which has excellent resistance to abrasion, also manufactured from natural rubber, these washers offer excellent sealing properties, moderate resistance to some aldehydes, some diluted acids and weak chemicals, but not recommended for contact with solvents, petroleum and concentrated acids.
