One of many plastic products manufactured and supplied by ASG includes Acetal (polyoxymethylene or POM) pads.

Acetal plastics can be supplied in sheets up to 1200 x 300mm in size and thicknesses between 0.8mm and 50mm from which pads can be cut. Using one of our many on-site saws, presses or CNC machines, we are able to convert Acetal plastic into bespoke sized acetal plastic pads which can be supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils.

    What Are Acetal Plastic Pads?

    Acetal plastic is a highly wear resistant, strong , low friction engineering thermoplastic recognised for its strong physical and processing properties - retaining its hardness and rigidity even when exposed to high and low temperatures and in both wet and dry environments.

    A ‘thermoplastic polymer’ is a material which can be melted over and over again, where it is cooled down back to a solid state in it’s new shape or form which makes the material ideal for vacuum forming. Our customers have the option of taking Acetal plastic pads which can be produced as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval shaped pads or ‘discs’, in a range of thicknesses.

    Why Use Acetal Plastic Pads?

    Manufacturers and engineers often choose to use Acetal plastic for their pad production as its easy to machine, resistant to some chemicals, solvents and hydrocarbons and offers excellent wear properties in wet or dry conditions.

    Acetal is available in two material options - Homopolymer and Copolymer, Homopolymer Acetal as strong and tough at room temperature, whereas Copolymer Acetal demonstrates excellent performance at high heat and within hot water environments as it’s less porous.

    Acetal plastic pads can be cut and converted into a range of intricate shapes and products using various techniques including laser cutting, die cutting, sawing and even thermoforming (where the material is heated until it is soft, re-shaped and then left to cool and harden).

    Combined with the excellent wear resistance and performance in cold or hot environments (including hot water) make Acetal pads perfect for use as parts within pumps and valves, gears, electrical components, food production, medical devices and wear pads with equipment and machinery.

    Acetal plastics are available in sheets of various standard thicknesses which can be used to cut pads, alternatively they can be moulded or vacuum formed if a very specific shape and thickness is required.
