Acrylic Washers

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we are proud to be one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of non-metallic washers with Plastic being one of the hundreds of material types Advanced Seals & Gaskets can offer, available in many grades.  One of the more popular types of plastic we offer is Acrylic washers, which may also be referred to as Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA)  or more commonly by the trade name ‘plexiglass’.

Acrylic washers is manufactured in the form of sheets and tubes in a range of standard sizes, thicknesses and colours from which washers can be cut.  All our washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high-spec machinery, using either our CNC oscillating knife or one of our many presses (for very thin washers).

Our range of machinery means we can manufacture acrylic washers to match your specified dimensions in any quantity quickly and efficiently, which in return passes on a quality product and a cost-saving.

Acrylic washers are produced using either samples, drawings or dimensions provided by customers, which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and Thickness, manufactured in a plain or self-adhesive finish.

What are Acrylic Washers?

Acrylic washers, a thermoplastic material, exhibit a unique property by becoming malleable when heated to specific temperatures and regaining solidity as they cool. Their versatility stems from their strength, flexibility, and complete transparency, often serving as a glass substitute.

These qualities make acrylic washers a preferred choice for manufacturing washers and seals, offering the advantage of being lightweight and durable, while also being a reliable alternative to metal due to their resistance to corrosion and abrasions. Some variants even feature enhanced abrasion resistance.

Washers, typically flat pieces of material, are strategically positioned between two surfaces or joints to reduce friction, ensure stability, and create level surfaces for accommodating nuts, bolts, and other fasteners. In addition to improving the fit of fixings, they also function as effective water or air-tight seals in various applications.

    Why use Acrylic Washers?

Acrylic washers, prized for their transparency and lightweight attributes, find utility in numerous applications. They serve as airtight and watertight seals and act as non-corrosive substitutes for metal. When positioned between moving components, robust acrylic washers demonstrate exceptional abrasion resistance and extended longevity.

These versatile washers are customizable to various sizes through techniques like laser cutting, die-cutting, sawing, and thermoforming, which entails softening the material through heat, reshaping it, and allowing it to cool and harden.

Acrylic washers can be manufactured in plain or self-adhesive-backed configurations, featuring peel-able liners applied to one or both sides. Their exceptional chemical and weather resistance ensures long-lasting aesthetics, making them a preferred choice for applications spanning point-of-sale displays, interior and exterior decor, industrial uses, food display protection, and even bathroom fixtures.

    Advantages of using Acrylic Plastic

Utilizing acrylic plastic and derived products yields numerous advantages. They are not only cost-effective and lightweight, surpassing metal and certain sponge alternatives, but they also exhibit superior resistance to wear and corrosion, eliminating rust issues prevalent in metal gaskets.

Despite their relatively rigid nature, plastics can be compressed effectively to form a secure seal. Moreover, they excel in insulation applications by virtue of their non-conductive properties for heat and electricity.

Acrylic plastics have received FDA approval, making them safe for deployment in food preparation and production environments, commonly found in machinery, screens, and display units. Their notable strength and optical clarity are complemented by ease of fabrication and strong adhesive properties.
