Alveo Foam Pads

One of the most popular material types available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd is Polyethylene, available in numerous grades, densities and colours, which can be cut and supplied into a range of products. One such type is Expanded Cross Linked Closed Cell Polyethylene, which is also sold under the trade names Alveolit® or Alveo, used to manufacture alveo foam pads.

This physically cross-linked, closed-cell polyethylene foam is produced in densities of 33kg, 67kg and 100kg in continuous roll lengths in thicknesses between 2mm to 10mm, however, greater thicknesses can be manufactured in sheet form from which pads can be cut.  Our alveo foam pads are produced on-site using drawings or measurements provided by our customers, with whom we work closely to ensure the final product is to their exact specification.

Depending upon the size and quantity of pads required, one of many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one-off samples to multiple batches runs, which can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast-paced assembly lines.

Our alveo foam pads are available in a range of standard manufactured thicknesses starting at just 2mm, which can be split down or laminated in layers to create other thicknesses, laminated to other materials or coated with a choice of self-adhesives and foils prior to the gaskets being cut.

What are Alveo Pads?

Alveo is a physically crosslinked, closed-cell polyolefin (a family of polyethylene and polypropylene thermoplastics) foam produced in continuous sheets in a three-stage process: extrusion, crosslinking, and vertical foaming produced by the process of polymerisation of ethylene and propylene using oil and natural gas.

Alveo polyethylene is manufactured in a range of densities, in black (anthracite) or white colour options and with the advantage of being easily split or laminated in order for us to offer non-standard thicknesses and then cut into a variety of finished parts including pads. Alveo foam pads are cut from rolls or sheets of material and are often used in the same way as a gasket, whereby they are used to create a seal between uneven surfaces and fill irregularities.

Our alveo foam pads can be produced as squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval-shaped pads or ‘discs’,  in a range of thicknesses. Manufacturing pads in-house even means we can supply them in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.

    Why use Alveo Foam Pads?

Alevo polyethylene foam is manufactured with a fine regular close cell structure that is soft and flexible, with skin on both faces. It is manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses, but can easily be split or laminated to create non-standard thickness, and converted into a range of products including gaskets.

Alveo polyethylene foam offers low water absorption, excellent vapour permeability with good chemical, ozone and UV resistance. It’s an odourless material, offering a wide operating temperature range which can also be manufactured and supplied in a flame retardant grade.

Alveo foam pads are often taken for use with sealing against dust, air and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration. This soft compressible foam creates an excellent seal as its closed-cell and easy to compress, which is essential for an effective gasket where they are needed to fill deformities and gaps.

Advantages of using Alveo Foam Pads

Using Alveo polyethylene for the production of alveo foam pads offers countless advantages, the material is highly durable and resistant, inert to many chemicals, weather resistance and has excellent insulation properties and a wide operating temperature range of  -80°C to +100°C

These qualities make Alveo highly desirable in a variety of applications such as packaging, padding, protection and cushioning with automotive, construction and manufacturing.

Alevo polyethylene is manufactured in continuous rolls, in a range of roll widths and thicknesses, however, the material can be easily converted into a range of converted parts such as alveo foam pads and sealing strips for use in many gap-filling, sealing, anti-rattle or vibration and packaging applications.

Benefits of using Alveo Polyethylene Foam

    • Closed-cell and cross-linked structure makes the material impermeable to air and water
    • Good temperature resistance.
    • Lightweight and durable.
    • Odourless
    • Inert to many chemicals
    • Good weather resistance
