Acoustic Foam Seals

Advanced Seals and Gaskets Ltd pride themselves on being one of the UK’s largest suppliers of non-metallic sealing products, including those manufactured using foams, sponges, rubber, plastics and specialist papers, taking the forms of gaskets, washers, O-rings, cord and extrusions, which are all designed for the purpose of preventing leaks or the ingress of air, fluids and gas.

One such material is Class O acoustic foam, used in acoustic foam seals, which may also be referred to as acoustic foam, impregnated polyurethane or Pyrosorb. Class O acoustic foam is converted in-house, where it can be joined into rolls and split down into various thicknesses starting from just 1.5mm thick, our state of the art machinery and conversion facilities also allows us to also produce sheets and cut parts such as gaskets, washers and other acoustic foam seals which are all made to order and are produced using samples or drawings provided by customers.

As each form of seal needs to be manufactured using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various machinery meaning we can supply seals, including acoustic foam seals in high and low volumes, allowing us to keep our lead times low, prices competitive whilst producing high-quality products. Our on-site laminating and adhesive service also means we can supply seals in a plain finish or laminated with a choice of self-adhesives, foils or even laminated to other materials.

What are Acoustic Foam Seals?

Class ‘O’ acoustic foam is an open-cell, lightweight foam used for acoustic control, noise and vibration treatment and as thermal insulation material.  Class O acoustic foam is flame-retardant and meets UL-94 V-0 and  BS476 parts 6 & 7, it is Non-toxic, HCF & CFC Free doesn’t support fungal growth, is dust-free making it ideal for marine, building and construction, automotive, heating & Ventilation and manufacturing.

Acoustic foam seals are one of many products often taking the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers or extruded profiles, used to join surfaces together, acting as a separator or a barrier to prevent liquids, particles or gases from escaping or penetrating the application.

Most of the seals (such as acoustic foam seals) produced by advanced seals and gaskets can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives which assists with placement of the seal and holding it in position.

    Why use Acoustic Foam seals?

Many customers use class O acoustic foam as a solution to sound, vibration and thermally insulating and even sealing applications. Acoustic foam materials and products can be found used in most industries including engineering, construction, automotive and HVAC to name a few.

Class O acoustic foam is primarily used for sound reduction, but is used in many other applications in the form of a seal as the material has high performance in fire protection and thermal insulation. Acoustic foam seals are designed to prevent the escape or ingress of dust, air, gases and in this case flames when compressed between irregular surfaces - very much used in the same way as a gasket. Acoustic foam seals can also be used as an aid for shock, noise and vibration dampening in a range of industries.

This makes acoustic foam great for use in the construction and automotive industries where strict regulations apply. The durable nature of acoustic foam allows us to cut and shape the material using our specialised in house equipment to your specifications.

Class O acoustic foam seals can be made in thicknesses of just a few mm, and supplied plain or with a range of coverings such as foil, self-adhesive or even laminated to other sponge and rubber materials in order to increase the number of uses and properties the seals have.  For further information on the many uses of acoustic foam seals please get in touch and a member of our team will assist you.

The Advantages of Using Acoustic Foam Seals

Using acoustic polyurethane foam seals offers a huge number of benefits and uses.  Not only do they help with soundproofing, they also act as sound, vibration and shock absorption, and can help with the spread of flames when used as door seals.

These acoustic foam seals can be used to create soundproof enclosures in which noisy machinery and equipment can be housed and also as components within automotive and HVAC applications.

As the class ‘O’ foam is flame retardant, it is often one of the safest materials to use within building and construction for sealing under floors and within roofing systems and even within engine rooms such as on marine vessels.

    Benefits of using Acoustic Foam

    • Can be used as floor, wall or ceiling linings for soundproofing
    • Reduce unwanted vibration
    • Flame retardant
    • Can be supplied as an acoustic foam or laminated to foils, barrier sheets or adhesives
    • Sheets can be cut down into smaller parts such as pads, strips or even gaskets
    • Available in various thicknesses and weights
    • Doesn’t support mildew or fungal growth

    Different Types of Acoustic

We at ASG supply a variety of materials with acoustic properties, with Class O acoustic foam being the most popular where a combination of soundproofing and flame retardancy is required.  It is a lightweight and flexible material excellent for use as pipe lagging, duct lining and engine room/automotive insulation and much more.  Class O acoustic foam is available in various forms including:

    • Class O acoustic foam sheet
    • Convoluted egg box foam
    • Foil-faced class O acoustic foam
    • Class O acoustic with barrier foam
