Electrically Conductive Silicone Extrusion
Electrically Conductive Silicone Extrusion
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd supply a vast and complex range of solid rubber extrusions in many grades of materials and profiles, from simple cords to complex contoured parts with multiple cavities, all designed to provide protection, prevent the leakage or ingress of air, fluid or gs and to be aesthetically pleasing as edge trims or buffers.
Customers often select their extrusions to be produced using electrically conductive silicone rubber due to its extensive list of attestative properties.
What are Electrically Conductive Silicone Rubber Extrusions?
Conductive silicone rubber is a carbon filled silicone material that acts as a low amp conductor, often used for the prevention and protection of static charge (electrostatic discharge) build-up.
The generic term often used to describe a rubber material with conductive properties is ‘conductive rubber’. These materials and products are used for the purpose of eliminating electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI noise) often found in electronics.
An ‘Extrusion’ is the process of turning raw material in this case electrically conductive silicone rubber compound into a specific shape using an extruder machine that works using high pressure and a die (a shaped tool). This machine pushes raw material through the die creating the finished extruded rubber profile, in continuous lengths, with a consistent cross-sectional shape as per the customer's design running throughout.
Conductive silicone rubber extrusions can be made as a ‘solid’ shape such as cord, or ‘hollow’ where a hole, usually in the centre, runs through the entire length of the extrusion just leaving the outer wall. Some of the most commonly used conductive silicone rubber extrusions are D-sections, P-sections, door seals, window seals, U-channels and cords, many of which can be supplied with a self-adhesive finish.

Why use Electrically Conductive Silicone Rubber Extrusions?
There are countless forms and profiles of Electrically Conductive Silicone rubber available as most are made to order for use within individual and unique applications for sealing against air, gas and liquids, cushioning against vibrations and rattles, and use as surface protection.
Electrically conductive silicone rubber extrusions are perfect for applications where off the shelf seals and gaskets will not fit and a bespoke profile or shape is required. Extrusions are also the quickest and simplest method by which continuous lengths of identical products can be manufactured, even in bulk quantities.
By using Electrically Conductive Silicone rubber extrusions, end-users benefit from having a perfectly fitting profile - combined with the properties of the silicone rubber material.
Electrically conductive silicone rubber extrusions offer weathering, UV and Ozone resistance and a wide operating temperature range of -54°C to + 260°, making it suitable for a range of industries and applications including electronic enclosure shielding, and connectors in medical, defence, aerospace and telecommunications.
Advantages of using Electrically Conductive Silicone Rubber Extrusions?
There are many advantages to using Electrically Conductive Silicone rubber extrusions within your application as it has a number of excellent characteristics and features, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Silicone rubber has a broad working temperature range of -54°C to + 260°C for use in hot and cold environments meaning it will not become brittle in freezing temperatures, unlike many other rubber materials. It is resistant to weathering, ozone, many chemicals and fungal growth and offers excellent tensile strength and tear resistance.
Electrically conductive silicone rubber extrusions can be manufactured in a huge range of sizes of profiles, many of which can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives, they are readily available in a range of standard profiles, however more complex and bespoke profiles will take longer to supply due to the processes involved with designed and making the tool, producing and testing samples and then producing the final product.
Electrically Conductive Silicone rubber extrusions can be found used in many applications and industries where electro-static shielding is required including military, defence, medical and telecommunications in the form of enclosure seals, covers, door seals, sleeves and isolation barriers.
