What Is Fibre Jointing Millboard?
Fibre jointing millboard, also known simply as millboard, is a type of non-asbestos, non-metallic, and non-flammable material used for gasket and sealing applications in various industries. It is typically made from a combination of cellulose fibres, fillers, and synthetic rubber or elastomers, which are compressed and bonded under high pressure and temperature to form a dense and durable sheet.
Product Specification & Key Characteristics
- High Temperature Resistance: Millboard is designed to withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for use in applications where sealing and gasket materials are exposed to heat.
- Excellent Compressibility: The fibrous nature of millboard allows it to conform and seal effectively against irregular or uneven surfaces.
- Good Mechanical Strength: Millboard has decent mechanical strength, allowing it to resist compression and maintain its integrity under pressure.
- Electrical Insulation: It provides electrical insulation properties, making it useful in electrical equipment and applications.
- Chemical Resistance: Millboard can offer resistance against various chemicals, depending on the specific formulation.
- Low Thermal Conductivity: It exhibits low thermal conductivity, which helps prevent heat transfer and energy loss.
- Easy to Cut and Shape: Millboard is relatively easy to cut, shape, and form into gaskets of various sizes and designs.
- Non-Asbestos: It is a non-asbestos material, which makes it safer to use compared to some older gasket materials that contained asbestos
Why use Fibre Jointing Millboard Sheets?
Our customers often use fibre jointing millboard sheets to create their own products that close gaps and irregularities between two surfaces. Other uses include preventing unwanted noise and vibrations and creating seals. Fibre jointing millboard is often chosen for its unique combination of properties, such as high temperature resistance, reliable sealing capabilities, and cost-effectiveness. It is a versatile and valuable material for gasket and sealing applications in various industrial settings, where a robust, high-temperature-resistant, and cost-effective sealing solution is required.

Advantages of using Fibre Jointing Millboard Sheets
Fibre jointing millboard sheets offer several advantages for customers including their high temperature resistance and ability to be cut and shaped easily. Offering heat and fire resistance and excellent compressibility, fibre jointing millboard is popular and cost-effective choice due to its durability and long shelf life if maintained correctly. Fibre jointing millboard is commonly used for sealing pipe flanges, valve covers, boilers, furnaces, ovens, and other equipment or machinery where a reliable, heat-resistant, and compressible gasket material is required.
Different Grades of Fibre Jointing Materials
Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd, we work closely with a network of suppliers and manufacturers to ensure we offer a wide variety of products while keeping lead-times to a minimum. Fibre jointing materials available from us include:
Betaflex is a cellulose-based fibre material, made using a nitrile binder giving it excellent tensile strength, low compressibility, good elastic recovery and erosion resistance. Betaflex is used widely in the industrial and automotive sectors due to its resistance to oils. petrol, diesel and even antifreeze.
Ceramic Fibre material is constructed using ceramic fibres and an organic binder. Designed for extreme temperature applications reaching up to 1250℃, ceramic fibre rolls offer excellent strength and thermal resistance.
Gasket Paper has a high resistance to petrol, oil and water, and is therefore often utilised within automotive applications.
