Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Gaskets

Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Gaskets

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are one of the UK’s leading convertors of Flame Retardant Polyethylene products (such as flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets), using material of the highest quality sourced from the world's most reputable suppliers.

Our site houses some of the most specialist machinery as well as extensive storage facilities enabling us to stock blocks (buns), rolls and sheets of Flame Retardant polyethylene, in a range of densities all ready to be converted into one of 1000’s of products including flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets. Other terms by which this material is recognised include blocks foam, FR-PE foam, flame retardant polyethylene sponge or LDPE-FR (low density Polyethylene) foam.

Flame retardant polyethylene foam blocks can be split down to thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm in 2 metre x 1 metre sized sheets or rolls which are made by joining blocks of material together prior to splitting them, both of which can be used to further convert into cut or pressed flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets. As our flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets are produced in-house on state of the art machinery, we can manufacture bespoke items to perfectly match our customers samples or drawings, from a simple rectangular picture frame gasket, to a more complex profile with cut-outs and notches - we can offer a solution.

Whether it’s a small sample batch or a multi-thousand run, we have a machine to quickly and accurately produce perfectly formed gaskets, such as flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets, in a range of shapes and sizes, these include a number of presses, CNC and kiss cut machines, all of which can be produced plain or with a choice of finishes including foils, self adhesives or laminated to other materials. Depending on the size and quantity of the gasket required, they can be supplied as loosely packed parts, or kiss-cut on a roll for quick and efficient use.

What Are Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Gaskets?

Flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets are a piece of material placed between two surfaces to create a low pressure seal preventing the leakage of liquids or gas and to seal against the intrusion of dust and debris when under compression often taking the form of an intricately cut shape, but can be as simple as a strip or pad.

Flame retardant polyethylene foam used in the production of these flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets is a chemically cross-linked foam, part of the Thermoplastic foam family, which is foamed prior to curing to create small, uniform, closed-cell structure and a high quality, lightweight material. Polyethylene materials demonstrate a number of resistances and insulation properties as well as being available in a variety of grades such as standard, EEV, EVA, Conduction and Anti-static.

Densities in which Polyethylene foam are produced include 25kg, 30kg, 45kg, 60kg, 100kg - the density of the foam is measured as the weight or mass of the foam across its entire volume or within a cubic meter (m3). The denser the foam, the heavier and more compact the material is, this can vary some of the properties of the material and how it performs.

Why Use Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Gaskets?

Foam gaskets are cut from rolls or sheets of material in a range of grades and densities offering various properties for use in different applications. Polyethylene foam gaskets regardless of the grade share the same standard properties which include - a low compression set, are resistant to water, oils, chemicals and weather with further properties produced with the use of additives - in this case Flame Retardancy.

Being made from a closed cell material, these flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets have a good tear resistance making them easy to convert even using the most vigorous processes, with the smooth surface preventing mold and fungus growth. As well as the flame retardant properties, Polyethylene foam and gaskets cut from this material have a number of desirable properties including resistance to Ozone and UV exposure and a working temperature range of -60°C - +90°C, they also offer excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control and can be used for thermal insulation.

Flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets are used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces, provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas, dust and liquids, and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment.

Flame retardant and other grades of Polyethylene foam can easily be compressed, which is an essential requirement in order for a gasket to work effectively, as it needs to compress and fill the entire space to create a pressure and air tight protective seal.

Advantages Of Using Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Gaskets

Gaskets made from Polyethylene are popular as the material is made in a choice of grades and densities giving customers a number of advantages and a choice of properties which allow the material to be utilised in numerous industries and applications from dust seals to flame retardant gaskets.

Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam, used to manufacture our flame retardant polyethylene foam gaskets, is a man-made material, with a closed cell structure which can be used in sealing applications against liquid, gas and particles, resistance to wear, tear, Ozone and UV, resilience to impact and an operating temperature range of -60°C to + 90°C.

This material also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control, shock absorption and can be used for thermal insulation, the Flame retardant additives gives these foam gaskets the ability to self-extinguish and a slower burn rate, meaning they can be used where there is a risk of fire, as they will help reduce the spread of flames.

Flame retardant polyethylene foams are aesthetically pleasing, with a nice texture which are easy to fabricate, laminate and cut into parts using a range of techniques and processes for use within the theatrics, building and construction, HVAC, automotive, packaging and sports industries.
