Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Washers

Flame retardant foam washers, including flame retardant polyethylene foam washers, are available from Advanced Seals & Gaskets, manufactured by using one of many materials sourced from a network of worldwide suppliers.

Our production site not only houses state of the art conversion and laminating machinery, but we also have extensive storage facilities enabling us to stock blocks (buns), rolls and sheets of polyethylene, in a range of densities and colours all ready to be converted into one of thousands of products including flame retardant polyethylene foam washers.

Other terms or names used to describe this material are Flame Retardant block foam, FR- PE foam, flame retardant polyethylene sponge or LDPE-FR (low density Polyethylene) foam. Blocks of Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam can be split down to thicknesses starting from as little as 1.5mm, in 2 metre x 1 metre sized sheets, or rolls which are made by joining blocks of material together prior to splitting them, both of which can be used to further convert into cut flame retardant polyethylene washers.

Flame retardant polyethylene foam washers are all bespoke and made to order, produced using dimensions, samples or drawings provided by our customers, ensuring the final product perfectly fits the application - with ASG even offering a small sample run if required.

Depending on the size and quantity of the washers required, our production team will select from our range of atoms, autos, travelling head presses, kiss cut pressing machines or for very large or thick washers, we can programme our CNC (oscillating knife) in order to produce the flame retardant polyethylene foam washers in the most efficient way to keep costs and lead times down. Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam is stocked in a range of grades and densities, which can be laminated to other materials or coated with a self-adhesive backing prior to the washers being cut.

What Are Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Washers?

Flame retardant polyethylene used in the production of these washers are a chemically cross-linked foam, part of the Thermoplastic foam family, which is foamed prior to curing to create small, uniform, closed-cell structure and a high quality, lightweight material.

Flame Retardant Polyethylene is manufactured using the same compound as standard PE, but with the addition of a Flame Retardant additive. Polyethylene materials demonstrate a number of resistances and insulation properties as well as being available in a variety of grades (standard, EEV, EVA, Conductive and Anti-static) and densities. Densities in which flame retardant polyethylene foam washers can be produced include 25kg, 30kg, 45kg, 60kg, 100kg - the density of the foam is measured as the weight or mass of the foam across its entire volume or within a cubic meter (m3).

The denser the foam, the heavier and more compact the material is, this can vary some of the properties of the material and how it performs. Flame retardant polyethylene foam washers are a flat ring, comprising of an Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the thickness, cut from a sheet or roll of material, which is placed between two surfaces in order to create a level surface, to act as a spacer or to be placed between a nut/bolt to spread the pressure when tightened, creating a seal and a snug fit.

Why Use Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Washers?

Polyethylene foams are a popular choice for washer production as the material is available in a choice of grades for use within different applications. Polyethylene foam washers regardless of the grade used have the same following properties - a low compression set, are resistant to water, oils, chemicals and weather, with additives added to produce other grades and thus additional properties.

Flame Retardant Polyethylene is one such grade, meaning during the compounding process the Flame Retardant additive is added which causes the material to burn slower or even self-extinguish when exposed to open flames, both of which can help reduce the spread of the fire.

Being made from a closed cell material, these flame retardant polyethylene foam washers have a good tear resistance making them easy to accurately convert and fit into position using even the most vigorous processes. Alongside the flame retardant properties, these Polyethylene foam washers have a number of desirable other properties including resistance to wear and tear, Ozone, UV, a smooth closed cell surface which doesn’t support mold or fungus growth and a working temperature range of -60°C - +90°C.

Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam washers offer excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control and can be used for thermal insulation, they can also be used to fill gaps and irregularities between uneven surfaces and fixtures, provide a solution to unwanted rattles, noise, vibrations, to seal against air, gas, dust and liquids, and can also be used to cushion between moving parts to reduce friction and damage to components and equipment.

Advantages of using Flame Retardant Polyethylene Foam Washers

The use of Flame Retardant Polyethylene is common in the production of washers as the material itself it is made in a choice of grades and densities giving customers the benefit of having a number of advantages and a choice of properties allowing the material to be utilised in numerous industries and applications from dust seals to flame retardant washers.

Flame Retardant Polyethylene foam, which is used to manufacture flame retardant polyethylene foam washers, is a man-made material, with a closed cell structure which can be used in sealing applications against liquid, gases and particles, it has a high resistance to wear and tear, Ozone, UV, resilience to repeated impact and a working temperature range of -60°C to +90°C. It also offers excellent mechanical characteristics including noise and vibration control, shock absorption and can be used for thermal insulation.

The addition of the Flame Retardant additives in the compounding also gives these washers self-extinguishing and slower burn rate properties, meaning they are excellent for use where there is a risk of fire, as they will help reduce the spread of flames.

Polyethylene foams are aesthetically pleasing, with a nice texture which are easy to fabricate, laminate and cut into parts using a range of techniques and processes for use within the theatrics, building and construction, HVAC, automotive, packaging and sports industries.
