    What are Hypalon rubber rolls?

Hypalon rubber is manufactured in roll form (continuous lengths of material) and in a range of standard thicknesses which can be cut down into sheets or converted into finished usable components as and when they’re required.  Hypalon rubber is a high-quality synthetic material also referred to as chlorosulfonated polyethylene, produced by combining and reacting polyethylene with chlorine and sulphur dioxide, this reaction changes the thermoplastic polyethylene into a synthetic elastomer which can then be compounded and vulcanised to produce the finished material.

    Why use Hypalon rubber rolls?

The 2 compounds used in the formulation of Hypalon rubber creates high-quality rolls of material produced to offer a number of outstanding properties.  Hypalon rubber rolls have excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, acids, with an exceptional resistance to chemicals and oils and very high or low temperatures, an operating temperature range of -30℃ to +140℃ and a high tensile strength.

By combining the two compounds in the material manufacturing process, Hyplon demonstrates the moisture resistance, a good dielectric strength and chemically inertness of standard polyethylene, with the oil and  self extinguishing fire resistance properties produced with the addition of chlorine.

Using rolls of material is often preferred for large volume component manufacturing as a better yield can be obtained.  Rolls of material also allow users to be able to cover very large surfaces with minimal joins and thus creating a more reliable leak proof surface.

Popular applications and uses for Hypalon rubber

Hypalon rubber can be found used in many industries for specialised, industrial and household application some of which include:

    • Wire and cable jackets
    • Inflatable boats
    • Roofing
    • Seals and gaskets
    • Tubes and hoses
    • Tank liners
    • Shoe soles

Different grades of solid rubber rolls available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a wide network of material manufacturers and suppliers, giving our customers more choice when looking for sold rubber, our most popular grades of solid rubber roll include:
Neoprene (CR) is one of our most popular solid rubber materials, with various thicknesses held in stock. Neoprene is suitable for use where there is exposure to grease, oil, acids, ozone and even seawater.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) another very popular solid rubber is great for use in outdoor applications. This material is resistant to water, UV, ozone, weather, abrasion, alkalines, ketones and diluted acids.
Nitrile (NBR) rubber is a popular solid material for use within the automotive industry where there is contact with petroleum, oil and grease.

SBR (Styrene-butadiene rubber) is a cost-effective, commercial-grade, general-purpose rubber with good abrasion resistance, tensile strength and low compression set. (SBR rubber is not suitable for applications involving chemicals, ozone, very strong acids, grease, fat oils and hydrocarbons).

Silicone (SI) is an excellent electrical insulation material that can operate at high and low temperatures. Silicone rubber performs well when exposed to UV, weathering, ozone and moisture, and is available in a range of colours.
Viton rubber materials are manufactured for more demanding applications where there are harsh chemicals and high temperatures present. Viton rubber offers resistance to fluids, oils, acids and petroleum-based liquids.

Advantages of using rolls of Hypalon rubber

Using rolls of Hypalon rubber for the conversion of parts for your applications offers a number of excellent qualities which include its chemical inertness, resistance to ozone, weathering and oils, wide operating temperature range, good dielectric strength and self-extinguishing properties.

Hypalon rubber is usually manufactured in continuous rolls which can later be cut and converted in gaskets, washers or sealing strips, however, being a solid rubber it can also be moulded into parts such as tubes and sleeves.
