Kapton Electrical Insulation Washers

Kapton Washers

Washers are crafted from a wide array of materials stocked by ASG, encompassing sponge, rubber, cork, and specialized fibers, resins, plastics, and papers designed for specific applications, such as electrical insulation.

One of our electrical insulation washer types features Kapton (Kapton electrical insulation washers), a polyimide film renowned for its suitability in electrical insulation applications demanding thermal, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties.

Kapton film is produced in roll form, offering thickness options ranging from 23 to 125 microns, which can be laminated with an adhesive coating before being transformed into washers.

In addition to selecting the appropriate material, precise cutting is crucial for creating reliable and perfectly fitting washers. Our in-house manufacturing team meticulously follows customer drawings or samples specifying the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID), and thickness to ensure an exact match.

A combination of a highly skilled workforce and advanced machinery, including various presses and CNC machines, empowers us to produce Kapton washers in nearly any size and quantity. These washers can feature a plain or self-adhesive finish, available as individually cut parts or kiss-cut in rolls for quick and easy application.

    What Are Kapton Washers

Electrical insulation washers, essentially flattened rings, serve the purpose of reducing friction, instability, and providing insulation between two surfaces.

Kapton, a polyamide film also known as 'poly 4,4'-oxydiphenylene-pyromellitimide,' is manufactured using a formulation that includes (PMDA) pyromellitic dianhydride and 4,4’ oxydiphenylamine (ODA). This formula results in the distinctive amber-colored film widely employed in extreme-temperature electrical insulation applications. These applications include circuit boards, transformers, motors, and fiber optics, where the film serves to hinder the flow of electric current by supporting electrical conductors without permitting the current to pass through.

    Why Use Kapton Washers

Washers crafted from Kapton film act as a crucial barrier, limiting electrical current flow, safeguarding conductors during installation, maintenance, or device usage. Additionally, Kapton electrical insulation washers effectively prevent electrical arcing, a phenomenon where current travels through the air, resulting from gas breakdown and causing ongoing electrical discharge.

Kapton, beyond its exceptional electrical insulation properties, showcases remarkable temperature stability, flame resistance, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength. This exceptional combination of properties renders Kapton washers an ideal choice for aircraft and aerospace applications.

Kapton film is available in various grades and thicknesses, ranging from 23 to 125 microns. It can be supplied in full rolls, sheets, or pre-cut washers, providing flexibility to meet specific application needs.
