Neoprene Cork

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd convert a range of cork materials, most of which is stocked in roll form.  Neoprene cork rolls are manufactured in a number of standard thicknesses and usually supplied in a roll size of 1-meter wide x 10 meters long.

As we carry out all our conversion on-site, we can cut these rolls down to supply shorter widths and lengths, or even cut them down to sheets.  Many of the cork rolls supplied by ASG can be supplied either plain or laminated with one of our many self-adhesives, foils or with other laminated to other materials.

By keeping the cork in stock, allows us to keep lead times to a minimum and a faster turn around on cut parts produced from rolls.

What are Neoprene Bonded Cork Rolls?

Neoprene Bonded Cork is a mix of neoprene rubber and natural cork granules, bound together to create a flexible material with additional properties. Neoprene bonded cork has a speckled appearance and allows for the material to be used at greater temperatures and where a watertight seal is crucial.

Cork is generally manufactured in continuous rolls, for many of our materials the standard roll size is usually 1meter wide x 10meters long, however, cork is manufactured at specific lengths depending upon the material thickness which can later be cut down. Some of these rolls can be manufactured at longer lengths upon request, or we can cut them down into short lengths, sheets or into coils if required.

    Why use Neoprene Cork Rolls?

Neoprene cork is often taken in roll form as they give the customer or end-user the flexibility to be able to cut them down to produce their own sheets, strips, pads and gaskets as and when required. Neoprene cork rolls are popular due to having a number of excellent properties such as being lightweight, can withstand high pressure without degrading and is highly tear-resistant.

This material is a cheaper alternative to some sponge and rubber, has good resistance to oil, seals at temperatures of up to 120°C and is excellent for water sealing applications even when used outdoors.

Neoprene cork has thermal, sound and vibration insulation properties therefore often utilised within the automotive industry and as a base material under heavy plant machinery, pumps and compressors to reduce noise and vibration levels. Other uses of Neoprene bonded cork  include being made into component within electrical transformers, valve covers and within sumps, etc

Advantages of Using Neoprene Cork Roll

Neoprene cork rolls offer countless advantages and excellent properties making them ideal for use within many industries.  Neoprene cork offers a wide working temperature range and resistance to oil, weathering, friction and abrasion.

They also have sound and vibration control properties and are often used to produce gaskets, strips or washers to fill irregularities between surfaces, fill gaps, seal against water, gas and air, provide a smooth and even surface for fastenings, allowing for a better fit.

As neoprene cork rolls are part of our stock material range, we can manufacture cork products in bespoke sizes and in any quantity and with a choice of finishes.

    Benefits of Neoprene Cork Rolls

    • Sound Suppression
    • Thermal Properties
    • Bonded with other materials based on application
    • Oils Resistance
    • Anti-Vibration
    • Resistance to weathering

    Different Grades

Along with Neoprene Bonded, there are other different grades of cork rolls available for use within many industries each with its own unique characteristics, depending upon the material it is blended.  Grades of cork include Natural, Resin Bonded, Nitrile Bonded and Synthetic Bonded

Natural Cork – consists of grains of cork with no other added chemicals other than a liquid binder known as ‘agglomeration’ to adhere the particles together.  Natural Cork is relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber and can be used as a simple coaster, air/dust/water seals, in thermal insulation, acoustic and anti-vibration applications.

Resin-bonded cork – this is a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin.  This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.

Nitrile bonded cork – this material is still manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance.  Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.
