Neoprene Cork Strip

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of strip materials, one of which is neoprene cork, all produced on-site using a selection of bandsaws, strippers, log cutters or presses depending on the size and quantity required.

Access to multiple types of conversion machinery allows us to offer an extensive range of strips, from very small items supplied in a kiss-cut form on a roll, through to coils of log cut strips in lengths of 10 meters long or more depending on thickness.

Our in-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure we consistently produce high-quality strips to perfectly match our customer's specifications.  Our neoprene cork strips are cut from sheets or rolls of material that are manufactured in a range of standard thicknesses, which can be laminated with a choice of foils or self-adhesives.

What are Neoprene Bonded Cork Strips?

Neoprene Bonded Cork is a mix of neoprene rubber and natural cork granules, bound together to create a flexible material with additional properties. Neoprene bonded cork has a speckled appearance and allows for the material to be used at greater temperatures and where a water tight seal is crucial.

At ASG we manufacture bespoke cork strips made to order using dimensions, samples or drawings provided by our customers to ensure we supply the exact length, width, thickness and finish required.

Neoprene bonded cork is flexible, lightweight, waterproof and practical, suitable for a range of uses including gasket tape/strip for gap sealing, isolation strips for vibration and noise absorption, outdoor furniture, lighting, engineering, automotive, building & construction, etc.

    Why use Neoprene Cork Strips?

Neoprene cork strips are found within many industries and are popular due to having a number of excellent properties such as being lightweight, can withstand high pressure without degrading and is highly tear-resistant.  This material is a cheaper alternative to some sponge and rubber, has good resistance to oil, seals at temperatures of up to 120°C and is excellent for water sealing applications even when used outdoors.

Neoprene cork has thermal, sound and vibration insulation properties therefore often utilised within the automotive industry and as a base material under heavy plant machinery, pumps and compressors to reduce noise and vibration levels.  Other uses of Neoprene bonded cork  include being made into components within electrical transformers, valve covers and within sumps, etc

Advantages of using Neoprene Cork Strips

Neoprene cork strips offer countless advantages and excellent properties making them ideal for use within many industries. Neoprene cork offers a wide working temperature range and resistance to oil, weathering, friction and abrasion.

They also have sound and vibration control properties and are often used as a type of gasket to fill irregularities between surfaces, fill gaps, seal against water, gas and air, provide a smooth and even surface for fastenings, allowing for a better fit. As neoprene cork rolls are part of our stock material range, we can manufacture cork products in bespoke sizes and in any quantity and with a choice of finishes.

    Benefits of Neoprene Cork Strips

    • Sound Suppression
    • Thermal Properties
    • Bonded with other materials based on application
    • Oils Resistance
    • Anti-Vibration
    • Resistance to weathering
    • Will take adhesives well
    • Can be produced in a range of sizes

    Different Grades

Along with Neoprene Bonded, there are other different grades of cork strips available for use within many industries each with its own unique characteristics, depending upon the material it is blended.  Grades of cork include Natural, Resin Bonded, Nitrile Bonded and Synthetic Bonded

Natural Cork – consists of grains of cork with no other added chemicals other than a liquid binder known as ‘agglomeration’ to adhere the particles together.  Natural Cork is relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber and can be used as a simple coaster, air/dust/water seals, thermal insulation, acoustic and anti-vibration applications.

Resin-bonded cork – this is a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin.  This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.

Nitrile bonded cork – this material is still manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance.  Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.
