Neoprene Cork Washers
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd manufacture 1000’s of washers daily in a vast range of high-quality materials, one of which is neoprene bonded cork. Our washers are produced in-house using a combination of a highly-skilled workforce and high spec machinery in practically any size and quantity, with a plain or self-adhesive finish on one or both faces and in a choice of individually cut parts or kiss-cut in roll form for quick and easy application. Neoprene cork washers are manufactured using either samples, dimensions or drawings provided by our customers which detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and thickness.
What are Neoprene Bonded Cork Washers?
Neoprene Bonded Cork is a mix of neoprene rubber and natural cork granules, bound together to create a flexible material with additional properties. Neoprene bonded cork has a speckled appearance and allows for the material to be used at greater temperatures and where a watertight seal is crucial.
Washers are a flattened ‘ring’ of material that can be placed between 2 surfaces to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, it creates a smooth, level surface for nuts/bolts to rest on or for a better bit for nuts/bolts and, can be used as an air/watertight seal.

Why use Neoprene Cork Washers?
Neoprene cork washers are popular due to having a number of excellent properties such as being lightweight, ability to withstand high pressure without degrading and are highly tear-resistant. This material is a cheaper alternative to some sponge and rubber, has good resistance to oil, seals at temperatures of up to 120°C and is excellent for water sealing applications even when used outdoors.
Neoprene cork washers have thermal, sound and vibration insulation properties therefore often utilised within the automotive industry and as a base material under heavy plant machinery, pumps and compressors to reduce noise and vibration levels. Other uses of neoprene bonded cork pads include electrical transformers, valve seals and for placing within sumps.
Advantages of using Neoprene Cork Washers
Neoprene cork washers offer countless advantages and excellent properties making them ideal for use within many industries. Neoprene cork washers have a wide working temperature range and resistance to oil, weathering, friction and abrasion. They also off some sound and vibration control and are often used to fill irregularities between surfaces, fill gaps, seal against water, gas and air, provide a smooth and even surface for fastenings, allowing for a better fit. As neoprene cork washers are produced in-house, we can manufacture bespoke sizes and in any quantity and with a choice of finishes.

Along with Neoprene Bonded, there are other different grades of cork used to manufacture washers for use within many industries each with its own unique characteristics, depending upon the material it is blended. Grades of cork include Natural, Resin Bonded, Nitrile Bonded and Synthetic Bonded
Natural Cork – consists of grains of cork with no other added chemicals other than a liquid binder known as ‘agglomeration’ to adhere the particles together. Natural Cork is relatively cheap compared to sponge and rubber and can be used as a simple coaster, air/dust/water seals, thermal insulation, acoustic and anti-vibration applications.
Resin-bonded cork – this is a lightweight, flexible cork, produced using cork granules bound together using a synthetic resin. This grade of cork is resilient to certain acids and is often used in water retaining applications.
Nitrile bonded cork – this material is still manufactured using a combination of cork and nitrile rubber granules, giving a speckled appearance. Gaskets made from this material can be used where oil and fuel resistance is required, or where high-temperature resistance is required, industries include automotive and general engineering.
