Flame Retardant Neoprene Seals

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd offer many products which can be used as a solution to your sealing requirements, including those made using flame retardant neoprene sponge, such as neoprene sponge seals.  Flame retardant neoprene sponge seals are available in the form of gaskets, washers, o-rings and extrusions, all designed to prevent air, fluid and gas leaks or the intrusion of dust and debris.

All our flame retardant neoprene sponge seals are made to order and available in almost any given size, shape or format, produced by using customers samples or drawings, ensuring the final product perfectly fits the application.

As each form of the neoprene sponge seal is produced using a different process, ASG has invested heavily in various types of machinery, allowing us to offer high and low volume neoprene sponge seals for use within many different industries.

What are Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Seals?

Flame retardant neoprene sponge seals is also often referred to as polychloroprene or CR, it is one of many materials on offer from our vast catalogue.  This grey coloured, closed-cell, general-purpose material is very versatile and used to manufacture a number of our products, offering all of the properties of a standard neoprene such as good weathering, oil and chemical resistance, but with the addition of being used as a flame-resistant barrier for fire risk applications as it meets flammability tests of FMVSS302 / UL94-HF1.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge seals are a device or substrate that is used to join surfaces together to either act as a separator or a body to prevent liquids, solids or gases from escaping or penetrating the seal. Our neoprene sponge seals can take the form of cut gaskets, strips, washers, extruded profiles and cord, all manufactured using the same closed cell sponge which can be compressed, which in turn ‘hardens’ the material to create a secure seal.

Many of our neoprene sponge seals can be supplied with a choice of self-adhesives which assists with holding the seal in situ.

Why use Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Seals?

Our flame retardant neoprene sponge seals are available in many different forms, but they all possess the same desirable properties making them a popular choice across many industries.  Flame Retardant Neoprene sponge rubber has a range of desirable properties which means it can be found used within countless applications.

FR neoprene sponge seals can be used to fill gaps between uneven joins, offer anti-vibration and sound insulation,  they offer fair resistance to oils, acids and alkalis with good resistance to gases, UV, ozone, weathering and oxidation and its closed cell structure prevents the mould and fungus growth and provides an excellent seal against water and air with minimal compression.

Flame retardant neoprene seals has a wide working temperature range of -40°C to +80℃ and is tested to Flame Resistance FMVSS302 and UL94-HF1 and is great for use in abrasive and most internal and external applications for example heating & ventilation, white goods, automotive, electrical sealing.

The Advantages of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge Seals

Flame retardant neoprene sponge seals are producing using a premium grade material, formulated to offer all the properties and features of standard neoprene sponge, but also conforms to flammability tests  UL94-HF1  and FMVSS302 for use in applications where the risk of fire is present.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range which can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications, manufactured and cured as blocks that are easy to convert into many bespoke products including seals using a range of techniques and processes, and will hold self-adhesive and other backings well.

Under minimal compression, neoprene FR grade sponge pads will provide excellent dust,  air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil. Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene FR sponges are often used in many applications including the production of flame retardant gaskets within the transport of chemical seals.

Flame retardant neoprene sponge is another of ASG’s core materials, held in stock as a block, sheet and roll, ready for immediate despatch and seal conversion.

Benefits of Using Flame Retardant Neoprene Sponge

    • Neoprene sponge seals are oil & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

    Different Types Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with several material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from a choice of neoprene grades:

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge gaskets are also closed-cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), meaning they can be used in more heavy-duty applications less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM, and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
