Neoprene Foam Strip

Neoprene Foam Strip

Neoprene Foam Strip

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets, we produce a massive quantity of Neoprene sponge strips (also sometimes called neoprene foam strip,  gasket strip, gasket tape, isolation strip, weatherstrip, glazing strip, sealing strips and foam tape), all manufactured by our highly skilled workforce using state of the art machinery.

By following our customer's samples, drawings or given dimensions, we can produce made to measure neoprene sponge strips using our band saws, strippers, log cutters and even presses depending upon the size and quantity required. In-house production allows us to closely oversee the whole production process to ensure that we consistently produce high quality, competitively priced strips.

Our neoprene sponge strips are cut from sheets or rolls split down to thicknesses starting at just 1mm thick, we can produce strips from just 4mm in width and from a few millimetres long up to 50meters in length (depending on thickness). During our conversion process, we can laminate layers of neoprene sponge to produce greater depth and supply the final strips with a plain or self-adhesive backed finish  Neoprene sponge strips are available in various grades including medium-density, Flame-Retardant, Firm and EPDM/Neoprene blended grades.

Neoprene sponge strips can be used for sealing against dust, air and moisture, gap-filling between uneven surfaces or for reducing unwanted noise and vibration  They are also preferred in applications where there is exposure to chemicals, oil and water.

What are Neoprene Sponge Strips?

Neoprene sponge rubber (also referred to as Polychloroprene) is just one of many closed-cell materials on offer from Advanced Seals & Gaskets, and a popular choice when it comes to strip production.  Neoprene strips are produced from a block material which is split down to the required thickness and then cut into strips.

ASG can produce neoprene strips in a range of sizes and in any quantity using one of its state of the art machines, a bandsaw would be used for shorter/thicker strips, a log cutter would be used to produce thinner strips in longer lengths in coil/roll form and then the very small/thin strips can be produced using a press or even a kiss-cut machine.

During the manufacturing process, neoprene sponge strips can be manufactured with a choice of finishes including foils, self-adhesives or laminated with other materials in order to increase the mechanical properties of the sponge.

    Why use Neoprene Sponge Strips?

Neoprene sponge strips have a number of desirable properties making them a popular choice for use as a sealing, gasketing and insulating material.  Its closed-cell structure creates an air, dust and watertight seal, with both sound and vibration insulating properties, being a closed-cell also means it prevents bacteria & mould growth.

Neoprene sponge strips also have great longevity compared to other materials thanks to their excellent ageing properties and being resilient to ozone, sunlight, oxidation and UV exposure.  Neoprene strips are resistant to petrol, oil, chemically inert and flame retardant, therefore found used within many building & construction, glazing, sealing, electronic and automotive applications.

    Strips

Here at ASG, we produce strips in many materials such as EPDM, solid rubber, silicone, plastic, polyurethane, PVC, textiles, Polyethylene and much more.  As we produce the strips in-house we are able to work closely with our customers to provide strips to meet our customers’  exact requirements in terms of size, finish, quantity and lead-time. such as the length, width and thickness. For more information on our strips get in touch with our team.

    Benefits of Neoprene Sponge Strips

    • Oil, petrol & chemical resistant
    • Durable
    • UV, Ozone & weathering resistant
    • Flame retardant
    • Sound/vibration absorbing
    • Closed-cell which prevents bacteria & mould growth

The Advantages of Using Neoprene Sponge Strips

There are many advantages to choosing neoprene sponge strips in your application, the material is readily available and can be converted into bespoke strips within a minimal lead time, it’s an easy material to cut and therefore available in a range of sizes and finishes.

The material itself is long-lasting, with a wide operating temperature range of  -40ºc to +115ºc  coupled with being UV, Ozone & weathering resistant, which means it can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications.  Under minimal compression, neoprene sponge strips offer excellent dust,  air and watertight seal as well as good resistance against oil.

Being a flexible and robust material, neoprene sponge strips are suitable for use within many automotive, glazing, electronic, lighting, ventilation and building/construction applications.

Different Grades of Neoprene Sponge Strip

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with a number of material manufacturers, meaning our customers benefit from having a choice of grades deciding which neoprene sponge strip would work as the best solution for their application.  Neoprene sponge strips can be supplied not only in our medium density Neoprene but also in a Flame Retardant, Firm grade and EPDM/Neoprene Blended grade.

Firm Grade Neoprene sponge is closed cell, fire resistance tested to FMVSS 302, and has a density of 180kg (+/- 25), this means they are suitable for use in more heavy-duty applications, where less compression is needed to create a tight seal.

Flame Retardant Neoprene strips are grey in colour, can handle continuous temperatures from -40°C to 115°C and subject to more vigorous fire testing ( FMVSS 302, UL94, AFNOR P9750), this makes the material ideal for use within construction and transport applications where a flame-resistant barrier may be required.

EPDM/Neoprene Blend sponge is an extremely versatile material, combining the properties of both types of sponge, excellent weathering and outdoor resistance of EPDM and the oil/chemical resistance of neoprene, making it the ideal choice for many outdoor sealing applications.

Please get in touch if you are unsure which grade of neoprene sponge you require for your gasket or would like samples for your own tests.
