Advanced Seals utilizes various solid rubber materials for producing custom cut parts like washers, including solid nitrile rubber (NBR). NBR rolls are typically 1.4m wide and 10m long, with thicknesses starting at 1mm for washer production.
Our in-house team employs top-quality materials and advanced machinery to create tailor-made nitrile rubber washers. These are crafted based on samples or drawings to ensure a precise fit, and we offer samples for testing as needed.
For washer production, our skilled team selects from a range of equipment, including atoms, autos, kiss cut presses, and traveling head presses. For large or thick washers, our CNC (oscillating knife) can be programmed to efficiently maintain high quality, cost-effectiveness, and short lead times.

What are Nitrile Washers?
Solid Nitrile rubber washers are flat rings with an outer diameter (OD), inner diameter (ID), and thickness, cut from material sheets or rolls. They serve various purposes, like creating a level surface, acting as spacers, or fitting between screws and bolts. Nitrile washers are also used within machinery to resist abrasion, dampen vibration, seal, and reduce noise.
These washers are made from Nitrile butadiene or NBR rubber, a synthetic rubber created from acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene copolymers. Nitrile rubber comes in rolls, offering different grades and hardness levels ranging from 40° to 70° shore, measured with a shore durometer to indicate resistance to indentation. Higher numbers represent greater hardness, while lower numbers indicate softer material.

The material also exhibits flame retardancy and operates effectively within a temperature range of -20°C to +70℃.
Notably, nitrile rubber is resistant to "swelling" when exposed to oils and fuel, which ensures it maintains its sealing capabilities. As a result, these washers are a preferred choice for creating oil seals in machinery and automotive applications, including engines, hydraulics, and flanges.
Different Grades of Nitrile Washers
Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd have a network of material suppliers and manufacturers, meaning we have access to various grades of nitrile rubber which include:
(British Standard) BS 2751 Nitrile is higher quality synthetic elastomer compared to commercial nitrile in terms of it’s improved elongation at break, tensile strength and resistance to a broader temperature range of -30°C up to +110°C. BS2751 nitrile is manufactured in shore hardnesses of 40° to 80°.
Blue Metal detectable nitrile rubber is a synthetic elastomer which is manufactured with an additive visible to metal detector scanners. This grade of material has excellent tear and abrasion resistance, and is suitable for food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications as a way of detecting and reducing contamination.
Food Quality (FDA) Nitrile rubber is available in white or blue colour options, both conforming to EC & FDA regulations, for use within food and pharmaceutical processing industries where the material needs to be resistant to vegetable oils, animal fats, fish oils and greases.
