GA25 Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam Washers

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are proud to be one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of non-metallic washers such as those made of sponge, foam, rubber and plastic.  One such product we can offer is chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam washers.

Chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam is manufactured in 3 forms, firstly in sheets without laminations, secondly in sheet form made up of laminated to thickness using multiple sheets and finally in continuous rolls in various lengths depending on thickness, all of which can be used to convert into gaskets.

We manufacture all our polyethylene foam washers in-house using one of our many presses, kiss cut machines or CNC machines,  meaning we can offer bespoke items to match your specified dimension, with a range of finishes in any quantity quickly and efficiently, which in return passes on a quality product and a cost-saving.

XLPE foam washers (polyethylene foam washers) are produced using either samples, drawings or dimensions provided by customers, which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the Thickness, manufactured in a plain or self-adhesive or foil-faced finish, as singular cut parts or kiss cut on a roll.

What are Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam Washers?

A ‘washer’ is a flat piece of material that is placed between two surfaces or between joints in order to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, creating a level surface for nuts, bolts and other fixings to rest on, improving the fit for fixings and can be used as a water or air tight seal.

Chemically crosslinked polyethylene foam or XLPE is just one of many types of polyethylene foams ASG can offer as a washer material.  This grade is manufactured using raw low-density polyethylene, which is heated up causing it to foam before it is extruded creating a ‘honeycomb’ type cell structure.

Chemically cross-linked PE foam can be manufactured (extruded) as sheets or ‘planks’ with or without laminations, all of which can be split down, laminated to achieve greater thicknesses, laminated to other materials to create composite materials and supplied in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish from which polyethylene foam washers can be cut or pressed.

Why use Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam Washers?

Chemically cross-linked polyethylene foam washers are used in many applications including sports and leisure, healthcare, transport building, marine and more popular HVAC.  This material is a very tough, lightweight and long-lasting material.

The material is manufactured by way of extrusion, therefore has a rougher outside ‘skin’ which adds to its strength and makes it resistant to damage caused by water, air or sunlight. XLPE foams can be used as insulation as they offer low thermal transmission and also as shock absorption foam, ideal for packaging.  For use with electronics, an anti-static compound can also be added.

The Advantages of using Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam Washers

XLPE (Chemically cross-linked polyethylene) offers a number of desirable properties, it's a very tough, lightweight and long-lasting material. The materials are manufactured using extrusion methods which creates a rougher outside ‘skin’ which adds to its strength and makes it resistant to damage caused by water, air or sunlight.

XLPE foam washers (polyethylene foam washers) can be used as insulation as they offer low thermal transmission and also as shock absorption foam, ideal for packaging.  If the washers are going to be used within electronics, an anti-static compound can also be added.

Chemically cross-linked polyethylene sheets are easy to cut and convert into a range of other products including polyethylene foam washers, for use in a range of industries such as construction, HVAC and packaging to name a few.

Benefits of Using Chemically Cross Linked Polyethylene Foam
