Poron sponge Pads

Poron Sponge Pads

As a leading UK material converter, Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd stocks an extensive range of raw materials in block and roll forms, often cut and split into pads. Poron sponge is continuously manufactured in rolls, featuring thicknesses from 0.53 mm to 12.7 mm and skin finish on both sides, which can be further cut into various sheet or pad sizes.

Our on-site production involves utilizing customer-provided drawings or measurements, ensuring the maintenance of high standards and consistent, high-quality PVC foam pads. For manufacturing the final product, we employ various presses, bandsaws, or CNC machines, accommodating everything from single samples to sizable batch runs. Depending on the scale and quantity, pads are supplied as loosely cut parts or kiss-cut on rolls, ideal for high quantities and fast assembly lines. Since all our pads are produced in-house, we can customize sizes and finishes, delivering them plain or laminated with a choice of self-adhesives or foils.

What are Poron Sponge Pads ?

Poron Sponge pads are meticulously cut from Poron Sponge rolls or sheets. Our in-house machinery allows us to craft Poron sponge pads in a wide array of profiles, whether it's squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, or circular and oval-shaped pads and 'discs,' all available in varying thicknesses. This closed-cell microcellular urethane foam material is produced through casting and curing foamed urethane compounds at different thicknesses.

Poron sponge sheets are characterized by their high-density and flexibility, engineered to offer low outgassing, non-fogging, and non-corrosive properties. These qualities make Poron sponge pads ideal for gaskets, seals, and vibration management applications. The range of available grades spans from the very soft, easily compressible varieties that provide enhanced sealability to firmer grades capable of withstanding high-energy impacts. Additionally, there is a slow recovery grade tailored to applications demanding low closure force.

Why use Poron Sponge Pads ?

Poron sponge materials are characterized by a smooth outer skin on both faces, endowing them with a range of valuable properties. Pads crafted from these materials are versatile, capable of creating watertight seals, acting as thermal insulators, dampening vibration and noise, and resisting impact, chemicals, heat, UV radiation, and ozone.

What's more, Poron sponge pads meet flammability standards like UL-94HBF and MVSS 302 without the need for flame retardant additives. Their low outgassing and non-fogging attributes prevent them from becoming brittle over time. Additionally, they are non-corrosive to parts and machinery, as they are formulated without plasticizers or residual chemicals. This resilience makes Poron sponge pads a reliable choice for long-term applications.

Benefits of Using Poron Sponge Pads

    • Excellent compression set resistance
    • Temperature Range of -40 to +90 °C
    • Good chemical resistance
    • Flame Retardant to UL-94HBF and MVSS 302
    • non-corrosive
    • Easy to fabricate and cut into numerous components

    Other Grades of Sponge Available

There are different types and grades of sponge rubber sheets available for use within many industries each with their own unique characteristics. Popular types of sponge rubber include:

EPDM sponge rubber is a high quality material with excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance, making it ideal for outdoor sealing.  EPDM sponge rubber rolls offer a wide operating temperature range, acoustic, thermal and vibration dampening properties and also good mechanical strength and abrasion resistant properties.   Grades of EPDM include medium, firm, high temp and semi open cell.

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring  good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Silicone sponge is a resilient material with high temperature stability, chemically inert and waterproof.   Silicone sponge is closed cell, available in a range of densities (firmness) it has a number of features which  make it suitable for outdoor sealing including Ozone, UV resistance and temperature flexibility, meaning it will not freeze/crack.

Viton sponge is another closed cell variety of sponge rubber offered by ASG.  It is manufactured with skin on both faces which increases its tear resistance.  It has a wide working temperature range of -25°C to +204°C and good resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, weathering and ozone.

PVC Nitrile sponge is suitable for use as air, gas and watertight sealing, as thermal insulation and to reduce unwanted or excess vibration and noise, it is impact, heat, UV and Ozone resistant and flame retardant.

Industrial sponge rubber is a high quality, open cell natural sponge rubber.  The open cell structure enables excellent compression recovery, but also to form around uneven surfaces, limited absorption and circulation of gas and liquids if required.  It’s an excellent choice of material for us as protective sponge, expansion joints and anti-vibration applications.

Advantages of Using Poron Sponge Pads

Poron is available in various grades and manufactured in a range of roll sizes and thicknesses which are held by ASG ready to despatch or to cut down and supply as sheets and other pre-cut finished usable parts such as pads.

Poron sponge pads offer an excellent compression set resistance, creating a durable product which allows for long -term use.  This non-fogging and low out-gassing foam contains no residual chemicals or plasticizers which means not only will the material not become brittle and disintegrate  - but it will also not contaminate devices or corrode metals around it.

Poron sponge pads offer moisture, chemical, UV and Ozone resistant properties which prevents condensation, corrosion and the growth of bacteria, rot and fungus, has a working temperature range of -40°C to +90°C  and is also flame retardant to standards UL-94 HBF and MVSS 302.

As Poron is manufactured in roll form, it can easily be cut into sheets, strips or tapes, large or small gaskets, washers and pads.  Poron sponge pads can be found used as trims, glazing seals, anti-vibration pads, automotive and lighting gaskets to name a few.
