PVC Nitrile Pads

Advanced Seals & Gaskets Ltd are able to offer customers a massive choice of sponge when they’re looking for a suitable product for their sealing and gap filling application, one of which includes PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber.  PVC Nitrile sponge or PVC/NBR is manufactured in  continuous rolls of material, at 1 meter wide and in a range of thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm, with a skin finish on both faces, however greater thicknesses may only be available as sheets .

For non-standard thicknesses we can run the rolls through our state of the art splitting machines to create thicknesses from just 1.5mm with a cell/cell or skin/cell finish, all of which can be used to cut into pads.   PVC Nitrile Sponge pads are produced on-site using drawings or measurements provided by our customers.  In-house production ensures that our high standards are maintained, in turn producing high quality PVC foam pads consistently.

Depending upon the size and quantity of pads required, one of many presses, bandsaws or CNC machines can be used to manufacture the final product, from one off samples to multiple thousand batch runs, which can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls  where a high quantity is required or for use on fast paced assembly lines.

What are PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Pads?

PVC Nitrile sponge rubber is a closed cell, soft  material made from a blend of Nitrile and PVC polymer compounds, manufactured and cured with a skin finish on both faces.  This material can be used in the production of pads for shock or impact absorption, noise reduction or for gas, moisture and air sealing.  Using in-house machinery ASG are able to produce pads in any profile you require including squares or rectangles with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval-shaped pads or ‘discs’,  in a range of thicknesses.

Why use PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber Pads?

Pads made from PVC Nitrile sponge offers a number of properties making it suitable for use to create a watertight seal, as a thermal insulator or for noise and vibration control.   PVC Nitrile pads are impact, heat, UV, Ozone resistant and flame retardant, as well as being dust-free meaning they are safe to use in building and construction applications as they will not affect the air quality.  Due to the cell structure and material composition of PVC Nitrile, the will hold most adhesives really well, therefore the sponge can be laminated with a choice of adhesives or foils, ensuring the pads are securely held in position.

The Benefits of using PVC Nitrile Pads

    • temperature range of -50°c to +116°c
    • Excellent ozone, weathering and UV light resistance
    • Can be used for thermal insulation
    • Flame Retardant to Class O standards
    • can be manufactured in either plain or self-adhesive backed
    • prevents condensation and corrosion
    • Closed cell structure   prevents bacteria and mould build up

    Other Grades of Sponge Available

There are different types and grades of sponge rubber available which can be cut into pads for use within many industries each with their own unique characteristics. Popular types of sponge rubber include:

EPDM sponge rubber is a high quality material with excellent weathering, UV and ozone resistance, making it ideal for outdoor sealing.  EPDM sponge rubber rolls offer a wide operating temperature range, acoustic, thermal and vibration dampening properties and also good mechanical strength and abrasion resistant properties.   Grades of EPDM include medium, firm, high temp and semi open cell.

Neoprene sponge rubber is a versatile material, featuring  good resilience and resistance to UV and ozone.  It has a working temperature range of -40ºc to +115ºc, good chemical stability, and good general resistance to oils and petroleum-based fuels.

Silicone sponge is a resilient material with high temperature stability, chemically inert and waterproof.   Silicone sponge is closed cell, available in a range of densities (firmness) it has a number of features which  make it suitable for outdoor sealing including Ozone, UV resistance and temperature flexibility, meaning it will not freeze/crack.

Viton sponge is another closed cell variety of sponge rubber offered by ASG.  It is manufactured with skin on both faces which increases its tear resistance.  It has a wide working temperature range of -25°C to +204°C and good resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, weathering and ozone.

Poron sponge is closed cell polyurethane sponge rubber, which offers excellent compression resistance, good chemical resistance and longevity.  This material is low out-gassing, non-fogging and will not become brittle and break down over time.

Industrial sponge rubber is a high quality, open cell natural sponge rubber.  The open cell structure enables excellent compression recovery, but also to form around uneven surfaces, limited absorption and circulation of gas and liquids if required.  Its is an excellent choice of material for us as protective sponge, expansion joints and anti-vibration applications.

Advantages of Using PVC Nitrile Sponge Rubber

PVC Nitrile pads can be quickly cut in a range of standard thicknesses due to the range of thicknesses the sponge is manufactured in, as we cut most the pads from rolls, the pads can be cut to almost any size up to 1 meter wide.  Non-standard thicknesses can easily be produced by splitting the rolls or sheets of material down using state of the art splitting machinery.   PVC Nitrile pads offer moisture, flame, UV and Ozone resistant properties which prevents condensation, corrosion and the growth of bacteria, rot and fungus.   This material has some resistance to chemicals, grease and oil, combined with a working temperature range of -50°C to 116°C and is flammability tested to meet Class O specifications, meaning the material doesn’t burn and flame spread is reduced making  the pads suitable for use in HVAC, refrigerators, building & construction, sealing and pipework insulation.
