PVC Washers

ASG are able to supply washers using many materials, including a range of plastics, available in numerous grades, colours and thicknesses, one of which includes a variety of PVC plastics or polyvinyl chloride, used for PVC washers and which is recognised as one the most popular and cost effective engineering plastics.

PVC Washers can be supplied in sheets up to 2000mm x 1000mm in size and thicknesses between 1mm and 20mm as standard from which washers can be cut. As all our washers are manufactured in-house using a combination of a skilled workforce and high-spec machinery, using either our CNC oscillating knife or one of our many presses (for very thin washers).

Our range of machinery means we can manufacture PVC washers to match your specified dimensions in any quantity quickly and efficiently, supplied with a choice of self adhesives or foils, which in return passes on a quality product and a cost saving.

    Characteristics Of PVC Plastic:

    • Colours: black/white/transparent as standard - but others can be made to order
    • Finish: opaque, transparent
    • Thicknesses: 1mm - 20mm
    • Sheet Size: 2m x 1m (standard - can be cut down or produced as moulded profiles)
    • Heat Resistance: up to 70° C
    • Resistances: Excellent chemical resistance, corrosion, weather resistance, electrically insulating
    • Flammability: self extinguishing (when removed from the source)

    What Are PVC Washers?

A PVC Plastic ‘washer’ is a flat ring shaped piece of material which is placed between two surfaces or between joints in order to reduce friction and prevent unsteadiness, creating a level surface for nuts, bolts and other fixings to rest on, improving the fit for fixings and can be used as a water or air tight seal. PVC plastic washers are produced using either samples, drawings or dimensions provided by customers, which would detail the Outer Diameter (OD), Internal Diameter (ID) and the Thickness, manufactured in a plain or self-adhesive finish. Polyvinyl chloride or PVC plastic is one of the world's most popular synthetic plastics polymers, as it’s highly durable and can be produced in a range of formats including soft foams, rigid sheets and very thin flexible films all of which can be used for washer conversion.

    Why Use PVC Washers?

The range of plastic washers on offer from ASG are each manufactured using a mix of different compounds in order to produce materials and washers with specific properties. PVC washers are stable, inert with the sheets of material being extremely workable, holding their shape even during vigorous milling and sawing processes needed to produce washers.

PVC gaskets are highly chemically stable, self extinguishing and offer excellent compressive strength and electrical insulation properties, available in a range of colours which can be very transparent or opaque. Applications in which PVC washers are more commonly found used include piping systems, chemical or acid tanks, cladding, electrical components and as fabricated parts used within machinery and equipment.

    Benefits Of Using PVC Washers

    • Cost effective
    • Impact, corrosion, abrasion and weather resistant
    • High chemical resistance and self extinguishing
    • Strong and rigid
    • Can be easily machined, heated and bent, glued and moulded
    • Low heat and electricity conductivity for use with electrical insulation

    Advantages Of Using PVC Washers

There are many advantages to using plastic washers. They are cheaper and lighter in weight compared to metal and some sponge alternatives. PVC washers are strong, rigid and lightweight, offering durability and longevity as PVC washers is resistant to chemical, moisture and weathering corrosion, shock and abrasion which means it can be utilised for many indoor and outdoor applications.

PVC washers can be cut from flat sheet by way of sawing, milling, drilling or bending (heated and manipulated) or moulded into bespoke sizes with complex profiles or finishes. PVC plastic washers are also non-toxic, they do not conduct electricity so they can be used for electrical applications and although PVC washers will burn, it is self-extinguishing due to having a high chlorine content.
