Insertion Rubber Pads

Here at Advanced Seals & Gaskets cut and supply pads in many non-metallic materials, one of which is commercial grade insertion rubber pads. Solid commercial insertion rubber, used to manufacture insertion rubber pads, is sometimes referred to as SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) rubber, a lower-cost alternative to natural rubber, which is often mixed with other polymers such as neoprene and EPDM.

As with all solid rubber, commercial insertion is manufactured in roll form at 1.4 meters wide x 10 meters long and in thicknesses starting at 1mm, however as we carry out all our conversion on-site, we can cut these down into bespoke sized insertion rubber pads. Regardless of the size and quantity of insertion rubber pads required, we have a number of presses, bandsaws or CNC machines that can be used to manufacture the final product.

From one-off samples to multiple 1000 batches runs, which depending on the insertion rubber pads size can be supplied as loosely cut parts, or kiss-cut on rolls where a high quantity is required or for use on fast-paced assembly lines.

What are Solid Commercial Insertion Rubber Pads?

Solid commercial insertion rubber pads (SBR styrene-butadiene rubber) is manufactured to the same specification as SBR but is produced with a mesh/fabric reinforcement layer running through the centre referred to as the ‘insertion’. The reinforcement gives this economy grade material, an even higher tensile strength and wear resistance.

SBR rubber compounds are often mixed with other polymers such as neoprene (CR/SBR), EPDM and Nitrile (NBR/SBR) which are intended to improve or add additional properties, all of which can also be manufactured in the insertion grade. Using a selection of in-house machinery ASG can produce square or rectangular pads with the option of radius corners, and also as circular or oval-shaped insertion rubber pads or ‘discs’,  in a range of thicknesses.

Manufacturing insertion rubber pads in-house means we can offer the option to supply them in a plain or self-adhesive backed finish and even laminate multiple types of material together to create bespoke and unique variations.

Why use Solid Commercial Insertion Rubber Pads?

insertion rubber pads are often manufactured using commercial insertion rubber as it’s a low cost, general-purpose material with high tensile and impact strength, resistance to abrasion and flexibility even at low temperatures.

Solid commercial rubber has a working temperature range of between 70℃ to -20℃ and has good sealing properties against air, water and even hot water.

SBR insertion rubber is not suitable for applications involving chemicals, ozone, very strong acids, grease, fat oils and hydrocarbons.

This material can often be found used in many general-purpose applications such as hydraulic applications, wear strips and impact insertion rubber pads in production lines, automotive parts, scraper blades, hoses, belts, gaskets and seals.

    Benefits of Commercial Insertion Rubber

    • Excellent resilience and tensile strength
    • Excellent seal against air, water and diluted mixtures
    • Temperature: -20°C up to +70°C.
    • Insertion rubber pads are abrasion resistance
    • Excellent  impact strength
    • Improved tear resistance

Grades of Commercial Insertion Rubber Available

Advanced Seals & Gaskets work with many material manufacturers which gives our customers more choice.  Commercial rubber is not only available as an SBR grade, but also blended with other polymers to give a cheaper alternative, some of these blends include:

CR/SBR insertion rubber (neoprene)  is manufactured using neoprene rubber and SBR compounds to create a material with properties of premium grade material at a reduced cost.  This material is generally used for gap sealing and dust seals.  Commercial grade neoprene offers resistance to oils, grease, dilute acids and alkalies and are hard-wearing enough to be used outdoors.

NBR/SBR insertion (Nitrile) is manufactured using nitrile rubber and SBR compounds to create a material suitable for general purpose gasketing.  This commercial-grade rubber offers resistance to fuels, petroleum, oils and many solvents making it suitable for use within a variety of industrial applications.

EPDM/SBR insertion rubber is another hybrid made up of 2 different compounds.  This particular grade of material offers good resistance to weathering and Ozone deterioration and provides properties such as high tensile strength and tear resistance.  Commercial grade EPDM rubber is typically used for applications such as pipe seals, weather strips and dust seals.
